UTEP Basketball Recruiting

If I’m being 100% honest besides maybe Terrell I never really felt a closeness as a Miner fan to anyone the last two years. That may be just how it is with the new NIL age. However I’m not obviously excited about Golding keeping his job. The idea of a whole new team is at least intriguing.

Nothing solidifies recruiting like kicking him off the team and rerecruiting a guy. Some said this was a typo. I think it's absolutely true and Golding thinks he has Bynum right where he wants him. We're playing checkers and Golding is playing chess.

I think we get a discount if we take him back.

Pretty embarrassing that he left for what will most likely be a lateral move.
And these are the players that are hyped up by homer fans until they leave UTEP. Look at the schools that are being mentioned with these portal players. They will end up a mid major or sitting on the bench like Oyenma did at UT.

I don’t care that any of them leave, they should do what they feel is best.

With this ridiculous NIL, education means nothing. Hope all these guys are getting enough to last them a lifetime.

Obviously they are not and I would venture to say most wont budget. Kinda sad to see, unless they are driven to finish school or learn another skill that can make them money.

I agree, Rot. In thinking about it, the way the football staff use the socials to get the word out about new recruits and recruits that they are courting is impressive. On the other hand, we hear ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from the basketball team. There's no hype, no word on recruits, no up-to-date info. It drives me crazy because I know how big a role that socials play in creating and maintaining hype. That's just one level of communication, too. I realize there are other layers that are not being made a priority, as well. It's as if they are encouraging the fanbase to NOT care, stay uninformed, and trust them to do good things. Not an effective marketing strategy, to say the least.

But, I guess we can look forward to the annoying screaming fan in the stands and the various out of date theme nights with 3k in the stands next season.

GO MINERS!
I guess you could sit elsewhere if needed too

Very unremarkable stats. Did play 12 minutes a game. EMU apparently can't afford to list players heights or weights.

Attended perennial high school basketball power Huntington Expression Prep in Huntington, W. Va, playing under Head Coach Arkell Bruce

Why in the world is Golding going after projects?

I can’t believe UTEP basketball is competing for players with the likes of Morehead St., Montana, SEMO and other low tier schools. UTEP basketball was a well respected program for many years and now this is who we compete against? Our future looks bleak, especially as we transition over to the MWC. Help me understand how our historically bad football program can beat out top tier mid majors and P4 schools for quality recruits, while our basketball team continues to struggle to attract and retain talented players. I thought our basketball program had it easier with NIL funds, while our football program was operating with no NIL funding. It’s a lot easier to build a successful winning basketball program at UTEP, versus a football program based on several factors like our previous history, small number of players needed and NIL funding. It’s very clear that Coach Walden has figured out a way to attract and retain quality recruits to El Paso, while Coach Golding is settling for mediocre talent. We need a new basketball coach who can win and compete with top tier mid majors and on occasion with P4 programs for recruits.

I was going to say the same thing: look at the schools we are competing for players with. SMH. Most of the schools we are competing with are not even good or average mid majors. And not only that, but we can’t even get these kind of players to commit to us.
I feel good about finding 7 diamonds in the rough that everybody else overlooked.

Agree or disagree …. I think the freshman class is where you should be looking … with all this portal nonsense I think it’s harder than ever before to get a d-1 scholarship coming from high school outside your 4-5 star players …

UTEP should be recruiting international and high school players. Fill out the roster with portal and jucos if needed.

Fire Golding for Godsakes!!!, he’s awful at Talent evaluation Geez! 🙄
I hear you, but the MAAC was tougher than CUSA this past year and the top half were good. MSM didn't light it up like a mid major like Drake but they were tough. I say welcome him.
