The UTEP depth chart is now available on the UTEP website. Here is the link:

Just a few thoughts:

- UTEP lists 9 D-linemen for it's 3 D-line positions and only 1 player is a Senior. In total, we have 3 Freshman, 2 Sophomores, and 3 Juniors listed on the D-Line which could bode really well for us next year, if they can show improvement this season.

- True Freshman Trace Mascorro is starting at Nose Tackle. Kugler told the story on signing day of how UTEP offered Mascorro's teammate(Herring) first and how their High School Coach called and asked Tom Mason to look at Mascorro also. The story goes that Mason took Mascorro's highlight's to Kugler and they offered him that same day. Mascorro committed to UTEP and stayed committed for many months. Mascorro was initially found because of his teammate, now he is starting his first game as a True Freshman. He was also some type of state powerlifting champion, much like Will Hernandez was back in High School.

One other thought on Mascorro, is that he had a relative who played RB on his high school team that signed to play LB at NMSU. However, he is not listed on their roster.

- Tiano Tialavea is a Redshirt Freshman who was moved from D-Line to O-Line, which I think could turn out to be a great move. He has already worked his way up to 2nd team at Guard. Will Hernandez also originally came to UTEP as a D-lineman and Kugler moved him to the O-line early. Hopefully this move can have a similar type of success.

- McKee is the only other Freshman starter at Fullback.

Our D-line is going to find out what they're made of right off the bat. Oklahoma does have a new head coach, but it also has the Big 12's best offensive line and best quarterback.

Its interesting that Batson is ahead of Redix. They will both get reps, but Batson was Metz's favorite target 2 years ago. Sinegal should work his way back pretty quick (unless he is in the dog house). The left side of the O-line will be very tough. CSK is very high on Long so to move him is saying a lot.

Mascorro must be a tough/strong/quick SOB at 6'1" 270lbs to be starting as a freshman at NT in a 3/4 defense. Elsner will get sacks this year if he stays healthy, but can we stop the run on the 1st level? At 6'3" 335lbs I thought Tialavea would have been that plug. We will see how it works. That DL is young and deep though.

Overall this team is deeper and a there are a lot of underclassmen with experience. The season could go both ways but a lot hinges on the run and stopping the run.
