This is a good La Tech team too. They have a very tough schedule and barely lost to Miss State and NC State, unlike UNM, ODU and USM who are struggling this year.
Dimel blew it at Boise so here is a chance to see the "actual improvement" against a good team. (fingers crossed)
Now historically speaking, La Tech always does pretty good against P5 programs and has success against them in bowl games, but then struggled to win a CUSA crown and there were pre-Covid grumblings in Ruston to deliver an outright conference title(s) or they would find a coach who can. But it's post covid in college athletics and Holtz has to deliver.
Don't expect UTEP to come from behind, get qb sacks and hurries and keep under 100 yards rushing against this Holtz squad. La Tech and UTEP know this game is always a dog fight, not a knife fight, USM and Rice are dive bar knife fight games because of cheapshottery that goes on (It happened again last night). But La Tech v UTEP is in the trenches football. UTEP can't pull that special teams crap like they did last night and expect a win. Tech will get points from those miscues from flipping the field.
But then again, not since Jamiell Showers/AJ days has Holtz gone up against this type of talent from a UTEP football team.

Yeah, LaTech’s record is misleading. They’ve lost 3 games by a total of 10 points. 2 of those losses have been against teams in or that have been in the top 25 this year in Ole Miss and NC ST. The other being a seasoned SEC team who has beaten a top 25 opponent this year.
It’ll be a tough test. We’ll need to play clean, disciplined football and take advantage of all our good opportunities.

I'm thinking of throwing $50 on UTEP. I don't think LT will cover. Line is down to 7.5. I should have place the bet this morning.
+220 for a straight UTEP win. I felt so confident in the preseason about this game but now I'm having a hard time placing a bet on it.
