But they’re not UTEP. UTEP has nothing to do with MinerTalk, because if UTEP were in charge of it, they wouldn’t have it. MinerTalk is solely a KROD product. Which is why Adrian is taking the phone calls on the AM side, while the real football broadcast is by Teicher on FM and the Internet.

They’re ya go

Locklear’s stats don’t tell the whole story. He’s erratic. Looks lost at times. Kills too many drives.

I agree with the 3 man front comments. It’s not going to work @ UTEP. That offensive scheme also doesn’t look too promising. Walden is going to have to tweak it if he’s going to have any success with it.
I wonder if Walden is going to start putting a blocking TE to help because this has been the 2nd week that RT got bodied.

The only scenario that can see that takes the sting off this loss is if S.Utah wins 10 games and makes a run in the FCS Playoffs and Utep scrapes out at least 4 wins.

What happened to that Poppa poster who came in with all of these promises of what the coaching staff was going to bring and make us instant winners? He’s been quiet for sometime. Did he see the writing on the wall and decided to lay low?
Usually the non-El Paso associated people are quick to bounce once the losses happen. Never to be heard from again. There used to be a batch of Washington St weirdos when Price was here too.

Well, he claimed to be the father of one of the coaches (I know, you can claim to be anyone online).

I heard that WAZZU fans were actually very nice. It's in rural Eastern Washington and your rural folks are usually kind.

That doesn’t make it any better for me. Even a struggling Dimel managed to firmly beat a #7 ranked IW team, yet still couldn’t secure 4 FBS wins that season. We’re moving in the wrong direction.

Being a glutton for punishment (definition of being a Miner fan), I decided to flip over to the Liberty/NMSU game for further torture on Saturday. NMSU ended up losing late, but led most of the game against the team with by far the highest NIL valuation in CUSA. Again, as much as I hate to bring this up, and the season is still early, but it sure looks like the school up the street continues to do more with less. Their corrupt, immoral AD seems to find a way to replace the revolving door at FB HC. I can't wait to hear from my Aggie buddies about another a$$ kicking this year. Hope I am just being overly dramatic, I guess. 😉

How many here were criticizing their hire while boasting about ours? Instant success seems to only happen just down the road. At UTEP, fans are always full of excuses for why it can't happen here.

How can we get one of those?! I kid. Kind of.

It's not the fan's fault. It's the people running the athletic Dept. As fans, we can only cheer/support what they give us.
That attitude creates a culture of complacency and allows mediocrity, if we wanna call it that, to persist. If we, as fans, only support what we're given without demanding better, we become part of the problem. Our role isn’t just to cheer—it’s to hold the athletic department accountable. Without expectations for improvement, there's no pressure for change.

Just wondering, if we would have won in overtime are the conversations different.
I say no, we should have dominated that school.
Most of us who were being realistic expected a close win, especially from a coach who supposedly “plays to win,” or whatever you called it. A gritty win would’ve completely changed the narrative, but instead, we handed this game away. Now, the red flags are impossible to ignore.

Hats off to SUU. Their 2nd half blitz packages stymied UTEP offense. I saw some of our O line, not all, get beat rather embarrassingly.

I want to say this, SUU had some hogs on both sides of the ball.

Yes, "a win is a win" would have a different conversation, but that's the point, UTEP didn't win.

Honest question, Corona. Where are you, and others, “demanding” better? What avenues or channels are people going through to demand better?

I hear it a lot on here, and I’m not making any assumptions about you personally, but I suspect most people’s “demands” stop right where they log off of Miner Digs for the evening.

Nobody can demand anything. To me, the best we can do is accept what UTEP has and support them. I will go to every game whether UTEP is 0-10 or 10-0. I know some people call that dumb, but I don't care because I enjoy attending the games.

Exactly. I had a couple of conversations with Senter over the years. He's a smug jackass who didn't care to listen and didn't seem to want to hear what I had to say. He's a phony who puts on a fake smile. Bob Stull was the complete opposite. He always took time to listen to fans and made sure to listen to the concerns of fans.

The relationship between fans and the administration is symbiotic. I don’t think that Senter, Walden and Wilson want to field teams that make us hate UTEP. They all know their success hinges on Athletic success. With that being said I don’t blame anyone from withholding their money given the struggles weve seen year in and year out. Now, one persons money change anything? Probably not. But in this last year we’ve seen UTEP and Walden strike up new financial partnerships with corporate sponsors. Walden and Senter could be setting themselves up because in another year or two, if there’s no improvement and those sponsors want to pull their money because people aren’t going to games, then we may see change.

If you have deep pockets get to it JCorona, I don't, so my influence on UTEP Athletics comings and goings is extremely limited I'm afraid.

I've never met the man, and I don't have anything against him personally, but his run here should be coming to a close, pronto. He has failed at the two major sports that a University needs to be competent in. Not great, I would settle for competent.

By disengaging and no longer caring. If that's the kind of show they want to run, I don't want to watch it. Sure, my absence alone might not make a difference, but if the Sun Bowl continues at FCS level crowds, it will definitely be noticed.

I can’t even remember the last time I bought UTEP merch or a ticket, and I used to be so passionate. I’d go out of my way, making big sacrifices to attend road games or travel to El Paso. Now, I barely even know when they’re playing.

I get that and I can relate to an extent. I don’t remember whether fb or bb, however I thought you went to EP and caught a couple games as recent as last year, but I must be mistaken.

I was just curious what you meant when you said “demand” and what that looked like action or inaction wise for you.

No actions bro just bitchin on here. Last time I caught a game in EP was when we played HBU with that big crowd. And I also with UTsA and the trash debacle.

I’m not out on Walden yet. This was a Big early set back, but it’s way too early give up on the man! As far as Senter UTEP should’ve given up on him awhile ago!
I am officially saying this right now. I want the spread back. UTEP has run every offense known on the books since the Bill Yung days (Chadwell has been noted to run the newest variants of an option, RPO, triple aggressive style known in the G5).

Since '87 we saw Harvey, Singleton, Paul Smith and Buckram smash d lines. "Bo" Miles smashed up the middle running Lee's option, but not like these guys. The guys named above "moved the chains" more consistently.

Big man WR Reggie Barrett made Stull look good. Johnny Lee Higgins would run in the middle of any defense against any LB's and with the ball overthrown by Palmer and he won UTEP games. He was the last serious UTEP threat had. No, TS wasn't even close [TOP UTEP WR'S].

Love him or hate him, Mike Price ran the Spread and it worked.

I gave Dimel time, why not Scotty. I'm just done with the RPO and it's cousins. Long live the Spread offense. Under the right coach and players, defenses still struggle against it.

All good. I’m sure I’ll be bitching soon, when it’s bb season.

You still part of La Murga?

Yes still very active in the Austin fc Supporters Group culture. Started an entire local soccer club with Pollo FC. Currently managing five teams. Check out or insta. Still learning and growing but definitely worth all the time I throw into it.
