UTSA #25 coaches poll

I support this post just have no optimism whatsoever at a packed sunbowl considering we could only generate some 18k in attendance when we’re 5-1.
Tickets are cheaper than LT and I would like to believe Senter will swallow his pride and recognize what he has done as far marketing/promotions isn't working. He might be a stubborn man and prove you right.

Lol, Senter is a slug. He'll count on the team winning to get 30k for UTSA.

While I expect that many if they beat FAU, imagine the mentality of "if we're 7-1 facing a possibly ranked opponent, fans will come."

If they lose to FAU... he should earn his paycheck and figure out a way to at least get 25k for UTSA. Knowing him he'll sell a block of tickets to UTSA fans and call it a success.

Why blame Senter? Why not blame our city? Are the citizens unaware the team is 6-1? Are Saturday’s in El Paso full of so many events that people can’t attend? You’re passing the buck here in a major way.

Because he is to blame. He raised ticket prices without results. The city is not to blame, as usual UTEP is to blame. I took a look at the last 10 years of home games, excluding this year. From 2011-2020. UTEP won 37% of their home games (20-34). Out of those 20 wins, 6 were against FCS teams and 3 were against NMSU. 1 against Colorado St and the other 10 against CUSA teams. So despite playing 4 conference games a year, except last, the Miners have only managed to win 10 conference games in 9 years.

UTEP won 1 home game from 2017-2019 and that 1 win was over Houston Baptist, which they almost lost. They had winning home records in 2014 (5-1) and 2015 (3-2). Want to guess who those wins were over? The usual trash, NMSU, ODU, USM, UNT, MTSU, Incarnate Word, FAU, and Rice.

Lower level, bad, or mediocre teams is what UTEP has beaten at home. Add in, unjustified, higher ticket prices, and yeah, less people are going to attend your games. Not everyone in E Paso has the intelligence of Fili, and will just zombie buy tickets to watch horrible teams.

It’s going to take awhile for fans to “come back” and even then, they might never. A lot of people died during the pandemic. Even if they weren’t all Miner fans, their deaths probably had some effect on some fans.

El Paso has done their part supporting UTEP football for 50 years, with very, very little in return. Blame the administration and the coaches.

I hate myself for agreeing with you SMH! However, that's correct. Build Product into a winner with the right coaches who get the right players. Build back up a fan base with the right prices and the right fans will be there to support and spread the word. Biggest advertisement in EP if I recall is still word of mouth!

Damn it I'm going to have to break out my income per capita stats? El Paso is a piss poor city/county.

Here's the other reason that it's UTEP's fault: I can guarantee you that there are a large percentage of El Pasoans that are unaware that the Miners are 6-1. And that is definitely the fault of the (practically non-existent) UTEP Marketing Department. Some other posters on this board shared tweets that the Miners sent out in advance of the LA Tech game, but as Corona pointed out, if all you're doing is advertising on UTEP Twitter it's nothing more than preaching to the choir.

Ideally there would be TV commercials, radio spots, and billboards letting everyone know of the team's success. Yes, I know that this costs money, but as the adage goes, you've got to spend money to make money.

Now if they don't have the money to spend, how about this: offer football coaches and players to every radio station, asking the hosts to engage them in conversation during the morning or evening drive time. Every single radio station has there DJs engage with themselves or others in mindless prattle at several points in their broadcasts, if UTEP could convince them to make it about the Miner Football Team it's a win.

Also, this is a buy week. How about having Dimel and the team go to Cielo Vista or the Outlet Shoppes or some other crowded venue this weekend and sign autographs, give away cheap merchandise, and maybe have some raffles or contests for free tickets?

Additionally, Dimel and company need to get on campus, engage the student body, and get them to take advantage of their free tickets. Jeff Traylor, the UTSA head coach, was seen handing out free Whataburger breakfast taquitos at a recent student event. Why aren't we doing something similar?

I don't know, maybe the above ideas are stupid. I'm a mathematician, I'm not in marketing. But for the folks in the UTEP Marketing Department, that's their job. They're supposed to come up with creative ways to get the word out. And sending out Tweets to people who already follow UTEP just isn't getting the job done.

You should be in UTEP’S marketing department.

Advertisement ? So again I have to ask. Are the people of El Paso not aware of the football teams success this season?

Well the problem with breaking out that calculator is that you'll find 2 things. El Pasoans will pay for what they want or like especially restaurants, but also events. The other point is El Paso supported to the tune of over 30,000 consistently during the Price area and even the one good year with Kugler to an extent. So I think you'll find it's more that apathy has developed in the city, plus Covid and it's gonna be second before things can get better. Also Senter needs to lower the high end prices until this team consistently wins and the fans are pouring in.

El Paso is a $10 to $20 dollar casual fan ticket buyer, not a $50 to $70 casual ticket buyer.

Also depends on the event too. A once every lifetime? concert like Metallica or Bad Bunny, people will open up their wallets. But they would eventually stop if they played 6 times a year from September to November every year.

That's why I said on an impromptu weekend event in an earlier post.

Covid is a lame excuse. Stadiums are full across the country and Utep is really good this year

Totally agree with you MinerManiac. Piggybacking on your suggestions, I would also have coaches, players and cheerleaders visit several schools throughout EP and Ft. Bliss to generate excitement in the community. We need our students to step up and show up en masse for the remaining games. Have the band and cheerleaders do a pep rally on Friday before the UTSA game. Bring pizza man back to the Sun Bowl along with other cheesy promotions. We have players like Rey Flores who can help engage local Spanish media so we can reach that segment of the population.
