are our immediate needs for next season as far as players/recruiting. The staff used up the the two available scholarships on two more guards for an already guard heavy roster.

Do you think the roster is good as is for next season or do you think some cuts and new signings need to take place?

Next year we will have Kelvin Jones. This guy is seriously legit as long as he qualifies. I have watched him and he is super good. We will also have McSwiggan who I have seen once. He does not jump out at you but he did shoot 55% from 3 in England. We should also have Willms back though unless he gains some serious muscle will not be a game changer IMO.

I feel that we have a lot of great pieces right now but feel that we lack any muscle (other than Winn). I think we need 2 6-8 240-260 sized guys good or not. Just someone to not get pushed around and to help block out which will lead to rebounds.

I agree with this, but as we have seen in prior years, Floyd is creative when it comes to recruiting. He has pulled scholarships and look what happened to Josh Brown and Lou Stallworth. They were here one year and scholarships were not renewed the following year. So although it may appear that the 2 scholarships have been used up, they are still recruiting players. For 2017, three just appeared in Rivals but of the three only one looks like a power forward and is only a 2 star recruit with only UTEP having offered. Like you said they need to find a 6'8" 240 lb. power forward for next season that is a rebounding machine.

You never know what next year's team will look like, but supposing everybody that is "supposed to" remains, and we gain McSwig, K Jones and the two incoming frosh, we better hope to the high heavens that the first two mentioned (JM and KJ) can rebound rebound rebound. Winn will only get better, and he is already near beast mode. Hopefully Buddah's athleticism comes into play and he can maximize his efforts on the defensive end and on the boards. Thomas will provide some offensive spark. Hopefully Willms recovers well from surgery because he sure as hell cant hurt. If those things transpire, this team could be good. No real need to mention the guards because I think they can get it done with a balanced and strong front court. As usual, it's all about the "ifs", though. However, "if" it works out that way, I can see the Miners being good. That will be Floyd's last chance to get it done, is my belief.

Very well said and I agree.

I saw him practice the other day. Looked like a young Jon Koncak from SMU. With some practice he could have some Christian Latener skills.

I don't understand why we have not gone after a big man! After how bad we have gotten destroyed on the boards.... If we could rebound we probably would only have 1-2 losses!

We are after a big man right now. A fellow countryman of McSwig's.

How do you know this? I've read that a couple times from you. Just curious.

I subscribe to a premium board for New Mexico High School Sports. He put up numbers, but there were a lot of post that raised red flags for me.

I've asked around and basketball guys have told me he gets in foul trouble easily because his footwork is poor, he lacks strength, and a redshirt year will do him good. He's only played organized ball for 3 years. People said he looked flat at the state tournament. Some have said he struggled against other bigs like Brandon Boatwright of Carlsbad and Henry Hattis of Cleveland.

Then you add that he had no other offers and UTEP apparently haven't made a scholarship available for him for next season yet.

I could be dead wrong and way off base. He may turn out to be Brandon Wolfram, a prospect everyone overlooked. But I know that he's a project, that's for sure. And I know that Floyd has not demonstrated that he can develop players in my opinion.

I hope we get Bigby-Williams. He's the leading rebounder and shot blocker in JUCO. To me, he's more ready now. Jones can prove me wrong, but I see red flags.

Thanks for the insight. I hadn't realized that there isn't an offer for him, as of yet, for next year.

Of course all I saw were highlights, which portrays just what it says...the "highs".

He may have an offer for next year, I don't know. But we have 2 scholarships and 2 inbound freshman. That's why I say there isn't a scholarship available.

I see some attrition due to transfer after the year, therefore opening up a couple spots. Also, that which Floyd giveth, hath been known to be taketh away. CTF doesn't seem at all content with overall team attitude and what he deemed as a "mentally fragile" group. Even he knows he is nearing the end of the line if he doesn't produce. If that means freeing up a spot for a guy he wants, that's going to happen at this point in time.

If a couple spots open, I can see us signing a big man in the late period. I find it odd that they offered yet another PG in Mike Bibby Jr. recently.

If they can get a big man and let Kelvin develop for a couple years, that would be best case scenario.

I think the wild card is McSwiggan. He has the size and ability to cause match up problems. However, it's hard to gauge how effective it will be at the division one level coming from Prep Ball in England.

It's always an interesting offseason with Floyd. With 11 guys on scholarship returning, you would think it would set things up well for next season.

I have only seen some video of him in high school where and all I saw were dunks which personally I don't like but he went up with power which was what I really liked.... So that's the only thing that got me excited thought he could bring rebounding to the team

I don't have any problems with getting some England they always seem to have much better fundamentals

Big man or no big man we need heft and girth, Budda looks like he could take a shower in a drain pipe and Thomas doesn't tip the scales either. We need to put all our freshman on a chicharones and beer diet and recruit a player or two who are wider than the basketball.
