I can't find anything on Sloan Spillar, Justen Tatum, or Mookie Carlile? They might not be playing anywhere. David Hamm is no longer on the McNeese State Roster, he had some well known issues.

Mike Price signed 3 of these guys listed above, while Kugler signed the others. Overall, this is a relatively small transfer list, considering that we have signed close to 100 kids during the past 5 years.

UTEP and the new CUSA - what are the positives?

pay4dirt previously posted the following in another thread. I think this leads to a discussion of the future for UTEP and the New CUSA.
The top three teams in C-USA at most, are pretty good. Right now, FAU is having its best season in history. That's great for right now. It'll be interesting to see what they do with this momentum in the AAC. It won't mean a thing for C-USA after this season. I hope we get a good payout for this. We certainly need it. C-USA is the conference of the left behinds. Especially the remaining five holdovers (this means UTEP) are schools that are just plain unwilling to step up to make their athletic departments better. I wish it were different. There was a time, years ago, when the conference seemed hungrier to succeed. Now it's like they are thrilled to death just to be treading water in the same spot season after season. Very frustrating for the fans. Oh well.

UTEP fans will now have to look forward to the New CUSA for 2023 (Kennesaw State coming in 2024):

It would be interesting to learn what fellow UTEP fans think may be the positives in our new reality.

Mine are:

- 9/10 teams for basketball give a better chance for making the NCAA (since it is a one bid league)
- Playing other schools of equal talent and similar situations, primarily due to NIL and money issues.
- UTEP is still in a conference
Unfortunately, that is all I can think of at the moment. Would love to hear other positives.

OT: Missing Titanic

Someone explain to me how , with all the technology we have now, this sub doesn't have a tracking device? Did they not prepare for something like this? All these billionaires that are building these devices need to just stop. Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk if they want to go to space . They should be the first ones to go.

OT: All eyes on Vah Horn, Texas

For those that do not know, the tech/specialists/scientists for Blue Origin leave the EP Airports and fly via private plane to their "undisclosed location" new Van Horn for work for some years now.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will put tiny Van Horn, Texas, on the international map next month when he's scheduled to go into space from a launch site near there.
Bezos’ Blue Origin aerospace company’s rocket launch site is in a secluded desert area near Van Horn, a tiny town of about 1,800 people located about 120 miles southeast of El Paso.
Bezos recently announced on Instagram that he and his brother, Mark Bezos, will be launched into space July 20. They will be joined in the minutes-long flight by the winner of a June 12 online auction, which already has drawn a high bid of $4.8 million.

The news has generated more excitement outside of Van Horn than in the area itself, where many residents took the news in stride, said Van Horn Mayor Becky Brewster, who previously was the city administrator for 30 years.
“People interested in spaceflight are getting excited; people not interested in it are not particularly keeping up even when (Blue Origin rocket) launches are," she said.
“I am a Trekkie and Star Wars person from elementary school age, so all this is fascinating to me," said Brewster, 63.

“A lot of people are interested in space and space travel,” so Bezos’ flight should put Van Horn in the spotlight and put the small town on the international map, she said.
Adrian Norman, the Van Horn Bank manager and a Culberson County commissioner, is one of those excited by the news.
“There’s not a whole lot going on here, and this is something that will be known around the world. It’s neat to have in our backyard,” said Norman, 44, a Van Horn native.
“You see it on the national news now. As it gets closer, I’m sure it will get more publicized,” he said.

Van Horn aims for tourism boost

Blue Origin’s launch site, which began testing rockets in 2012, has resulted in some Blue Origin workers moving into Van Horn, some buying homes, and brought more business to contractors, restaurants and hotels, which fill up with Blue Origin personnel prior to periodic rocket launches, Brewster said.
The mayor and Norman hope Bezos’ flight, and the prospect of future spaceflights, will boost tourism — one of the area’s economic staples, along with ranching and farming.
“We promote ourselves as the crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trail Region” because Van Horn serves as a hub to day trips to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Big Bend National Park and other regional attractions, Brewster said.
Space could become another part of that crossroads, she said.

Residents know little about secretive launch site

However, Blue Origin’s Launch Site One, located off Texas State Highway 54, the route to the Guadalupe Mountains, is a secretive area that Van Horn-area residents know little about, Brewster said. It’s about 25 miles north of town.
No signs indicate where the launch site is located, and Brewster doesn’t foresee Blue Origin erecting signs anytime soon.

Only recently, the company began giving advance notice of rocket launches and now offers launch site tours by appointment with the requirement of signing a nondisclosure agreement, she said.

Brewster usually views periodic rocket launches from her front yard. The rocket looks like a tiny dot from there, but she augments that view with Blue Origin’s online stream of launches, she said. Some townspeople go out on Highway 54 for a closer view.
Local officials have been tossing around the idea of asking the Texas Department of Transportation to build a rocket launch viewing site along Highway 54, similar to the Marfa Lights viewing area along U.S. Highway 90, near Marfa, she said.

Flight auction will start with $4.8 million bid

Bezos and his two fellow civilian astronauts will be launched into space in a capsule atop a Blue Origin rocket. The capsule will be released into space and will parachute back to Earth and land near the launch site.
The rocket will return to a landing pad near the launch pad.
The spaceflight will last about 10 minutes from launch to capsule landing in the West Texas desert, according to the Blue Origin website.

Who will fly with Bezos and his brother will be decided through a live, online auction Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. El Paso time on blueorigin.com. Pre-bidding closed with a high bid of $4.8 million, according to published reports. More than 7,500 people from 159 countries registered to bid, Blue Origin reported.
Money from the winning bid will be donated to Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future, to inspire future generations to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, according to the company.

“That kind of money would fix our water system in Van Horn,” Mayor Brewster noted.

OT: UTEP Fan Council

I say OT because I don't know what the hell they're up to. It certainly isn't marketing and promotions. See below. (Fans encouraged to wear orange?)

Here is a look at the themes and promotions for the Miners' 2019 home schedule.

Aug. 31 vs. Houston Baptist – Orange Revival/Spirit Night/Extra Yard For Teachers
Fans are encouraged to wear orange, bring their Miner Spirit and pack the Sun Bowl as UTEP kicks off its 102nd football season at home against the Huskies! The game will feature a halftime performance by the top youth cheer and dance teams on "Spirit Night." In addition, UTEP will honor the contributions of teachers, administrators and support staff at public and private schools throughout Region 19. This annual event was organized to recognize the efforts of all school personnel who teach, engage, nurture and mentor students in their care.

Sept. 21 vs. Nevada – Hall of Fame Game/Band Night/Youth Football Night
The 2019 inductees into the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame -- Hans Hoglund (track & field), Stefon Jackson (men's basketball), Tony Perea (football), Kayla Thornton (women's basketball) and Brian Young (football) -- will be honored at halftime. The game will also feature music from local middle and high school bands. Youth Football Teams can sign up to scrimmage in the stadium earlier in the day and cheer on the Miners versus the Wolf Pack!

Oct. 5 vs. UTSA – Homecoming
UTEP Homecoming week is Sept. 29-Oct. 5, capped by the Miners' C-USA home opener against their Lone Star State rivals the Roadrunners! This year marks UTEP's 88th Homecoming contest and the first under new President Dr. Heather Wilson. Come celebrate UTEP's proud history and bright future under the lights in the Sun Bowl!

Oct. 26 vs. LA Tech – Military Appreciation Night
The Miners will salute the nation's Armed Forces including the Home of America's Tank Division, Fort Bliss. Military Appreciation Night features an enlistment ceremony and in-game on-field and video board tributes. The game is also highlighted by static displays around the stadium and a pregame flyover.

Nov. 9 vs. Charlotte – TBA

Nov. 30 vs. Rice – Thanks Day
The Miners will cap Thanksgiving Week by saying "Thank You!" to local law enforcement agencies and first responders. UTEP will also pay tribute to its 2019 seniors as they play their final home game in the Sun Bowl.
