Is Jim Senter a man of his word? A couple of questions

Flashback to his opening press conference upon being hired (11/27/2017):

"The third thing that I talked about is this idea of accountability... am I going to sit around and go 'Oh woe is me, I didn't get the recruit, I didn't get the win, I don't have what I need to get my job done.' You're going to own it, right?"

"...I'll tell you, probably the biggest ingredient of all is winning. Winning drives people to come in and watch. Being exciting drives people to come in and watch. And so we've got to hire the right kind of coaches who do that and get it done."

Is Golding "getting it done"? Does .500 equate to "being exciting" or "winning"? What does "owning it" mean exactly?
Is the Basketball program being 106-108 since 2018-2019 (your first full season in charge of Athletics) considered "winning"? Who is accountable, do you own it?

This is the team Golding built, and it has too many weaknesses.

Either Golding couldn't recruit the right players for his system, or his system has too many vulnerabilities for UTEP to overcome; I don't know which. We consistently get outrebounded. We too often have lapses in defense (WKU shouldn't be making 50% of their shots on our court). I do think the players give a good effort every night, but that's not enough.

Can we stop pretending that this is a good team?

The Miners are now 7-6 in league play. By any definition that is a mediocre record, and we play in a mediocre league. We are nothing more than a mediocre team.

The worst part is that this is Golding's peak here at UTEP. Among his main rotation are five seniors, seniors that he's been able to keep here for multiple seasons, including our best player, Frazier (even if he didn't play like it tonight). If Golding stays he will have to rebuild the team, and he has proven incapable of bringing in the required number of contributors in a single recruiting year. It won't get any better than this while he's the coach, and this just isn't good enough. He obviously gets to coach until the last game of this season, but after that I hope that this misery ends and he's sent walking.

As for the next coach, since Haskins left we're 3 for 4 when hiring a hot shot assistant, and 0 for 3 when hiring a proven coach. Maybe we should go back to the previous formula.

OT: Chapin Boys Basketball

Congrats to the Chapin HS Boys basketball team for advancing to the Elite 8. This is more impressive considering the transfer of KJ Lewis.

What are they? Not specific to any coach that is coaching or will be coaching in the future. Just asking what everyone’s expectations are for the program.

If you’re expecting Gonzaga or Kansas type results, not sure this post is for you.

If you won a BILLION dollar lottery would you donate to UTEP?

Whenever Powerball or Mega Millions have climbed over a billion I've thought of how much I would donate to UTEP athletics to help get us to the upper echelon of college athletics. Like would five million help? Ten million? Fifty million? Five hundred million if the lottery was over a billion?

How much would you donate to UTEP if you won a BILLION dollar Powerball or Mega Millions lottery?

UTEP at Kennesaw State

Next up is a road swing to Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State. Last time we lost to Jax St at home and barely beat Kennesaw St in the Don. While I wouldn't be surprised if we swept this trip, given our ability to sometimes play well, I certainly don't expect it; a split or being swept are both more likely. I'm going to go with a split, with us barely beating Kennesaw St - again.
