Bob Stull

In an attempt to get this thread back on track, Stull said during his retirement press conference that substantial money has been raised for the Sun Bowl upgrade project and that an announcement could come this fall. Anyone have any details on what the project entails?

My guess is luxury suites, but I hope it includes repairing the crumbling infrastructure.

He mentioned it now possibly being done in two phases. Not exactly sure what that means, but maybe they have raised half of the money and will announce half of the project now as he retires(maybe the south end portion). Then the other half(Press Box renovation) will be done later under the new AD. Just speculating why they might be adjusting it to "two phases".

Walking up the stairs in certain areas is a safety hazard. I have actually seen a few people fall because of the poor condition of the cement.

I am glad to see that the Sun Bowl is going to get renovated, but they need to upgrade Kidd Field grandstands as well as the lighting at both facilities.
Something like this: http://www.musco.com/outdoor/sportscluster.html.
All the facilities need to be upgraded.

Get the best. Not the best one with name recognition. I just can't see Wickstrom leaving IW that soon. If he does it to them, who's to say he will not do it to UTEP when a p5 school comes calling? Do the hiring process like it was done when UTEP hired BG. Open it up and be picky as hell. UConn got its AD from Long Beach State. Oregon State got a great AD from Utah State.

That would be such a good problem to have. If P5's want our AD, b ball coach, or football coach we are doing it right.

Wickstrom would be a terrible hire. Got fired at ulm. That would be a very bad hire.

Wickstron was named the best G5 AD a few years ago and he is well known as a prolific fund raiser, even at little old ULM. The president at ULM is a nut job as he has replaced THREE athletic directors the last five years. UTEP NEEDS WICKSTROM!

He would be worse than stull.

He also oversaw Sean Kugler’s tenure, didn’t sign Billy G to a contract so he was able to walk for free in 04, and he brought his boy Tim Floyd in and we were stuck with that forever. Oh, and not to mention if the rumors are true he didn’t take the deal to go to the MWC conference in the mid 2000s. So for all the good he did, he crapped the bed just as hard.

Whoever this guy bobbing on Bob Stull doesn’t know Brumbelow coached UTEP to its only outright conference title in football, 2 Sun Bowls and he helped secure funding to build the Sun Bowl Stadium. Bob Stull doesn’t touch that.

Billy G played games with signing his contract everywhere he went, if I remember correctly. I think he only had a verbal agreement with A&M and he never signed one at Kentucky, where the strategy finally backfired on him. I wouldn't hold that one against Stull, because Gillispie seemed opposed to signing a contract for anybody.

Doesn’t make a difference. UTEP would have had a little more money, would be long gone be now. Still would have gone to A&M. Changes nothing.
