"...Evelyn had never been to Nebraska before his visit last Thursday, but said he felt at home quickly.

"It was the fans and the environment and playing with the guys," he said. "And then talking with Coach (Tim) Miles about his plans for the program and how I can impact the team, it all fit with what I'm trying to do."

Growing up in Big Ten country, Evelyn said he was familiar with Nebraska basketball...." [Source: nptelegraph.com]

WTF, I never said that!!!! Get your shit straight Carlos, I've never posted anything ever about this guy! You continue to make a case for yourself looking ridiculous lol

Nattybry didn't say that.

STCarlosEP credibility = ZERO

but but, Chunks is always right! Everyone else should know that by now... He's is always ready to prove all BAD things for UTEP right... Get it together guys... Chunks rules! Miners drool!

I understand that you're not high on CTF. I get it, cuz nor am I. By all means correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't help but question whether you get more joy out of the "swing and a miss" scenarios than you do from the successes of the program, however minimal they may appear. Am I close?

I'm fairly certain you won't see them as such, and remember I am in the same boat as you in regards to CTF, but 22 Ws is some success. A win over Xavier was a success. A win over ODU was a success. My pre season analysis as far as recruiting goes hints at a measure of success. It's not the level of success that I was hoping the Miners would reach this year overall, but I saw some success over the course of the year. It ain't all black or white to me...but maybe that's just me. To say the year was a complete bust would be overly dramatic. There were moments during this season that I enjoyed...since you asked.

However much good you think that Xavier win was, don't you think the losses to NMSU and Southern Miss totally erase that?

A win over ODU means nothing. They're a conference team and they made the NIT for Christ sakes. Any other real school would have fired Floyd. Now we're stuck with another rebuilding year and most fans thinking that nothing is wrong.

If you are always "qualifying" wins, you're never gonna enjoy this stuff man. I've said this before on this forum that CTF does not equal Miner bb. If you weren't excited during and after the Xavier game, I question how you can actually condsider yourself a true fan? That is the point...to win...no? That was a damn good win at the time. There were some ugly ass losses this year. Too many! But they don't negate the wins anymore than the wins negate the losses. ODU? Because we thought they would be tough, and at the time hey had a pretty damn good thing going and we thumped the hell out of them. At the time we really needed that win and we were still at least bubble talk 'worthy'. If you don't enjoy your wins in the moment while they're happening, you're missing out bro. Despite one's stance on Floyd, and you and I actually share that line of thinking, it seems to me that a fan would still enjoy in their team's successes when they happen. That's where you and I seem to differ. I'm not saying you've never posted something positive, but I've never seen it if you have.

I did enjoy those wins when they happened, but once the season is over, they're just another game that ended up not meaning anything. One year I like to see the Miners in the mix for an at-large spot or winning the CUSA tournament. Until then, I will just bask in the glow of our wins over FIU, Alcorn St, and Popeyes Tech.

You do that. Just know that you aren't exactly unique in your desire for more from this program. Were you around, as a fan, in the 80s and early 90s by any chance?

I was just curious. Speaking for myself only, I will say that that era spoiled me. The early to mid 80s were my formative years as far as Miner bb goes. It's difficult for me to accept where this program is, and has been for the past 2 decades+ because of those good old days. Usually to my own dissatisfaction, I still hold the bar high for Miner bb and we've approached those heights a couple times over the past 10-12 years, but not enough. But til the end I will bleed orange, and in addition to critiquing the Miners when i see fit, I also celebrate what I consider to be the good "stuff". I'll even drink the Kool-aid on occasion because anything less would be...oh I don't know...un-fan-like.

Please don't take that as me talking from my soapbox. I honestly could care less where anyone else is along the spectrum as a Miner fan. To each their own. It used to piss me off a bit, but after gaining a little perspective I do think it's funny how people on this board cling to their moral superiority as a fan by lashing out at those who see things...umm, differently than they do.

I hear you and know the feeling. I just find it funny that people don't accept valid criticism of this school. I can't believe some of the excuses they come up with. Most fans on here think the bball program is fine and that a championship from 50 years ago is still relevant. The HS players don't care about it or the Disney movie about it.

It's time to move on and stop with this Haskins love fest. No coach will likely stay here again that long and UTEP is a stepping stone job because of the way the athletic department is run. No other real school, especially one who's fans think is a "basketball school" would continue to keep their coach around for this long. There is no pressure for him to win and he can do whatever he wants.

Haven't people learned from Mike Price? Heard the same Damn crap year in and year out. If Kugler can get the football program going in 2 years, why can't Floyd do it in 5????? I hope the Miners have a better team next year, but I would bet anything they won't. We'll hear the same old crap and then the same crap after the season. That doesn't mean I won't be listening, watching, and attending the games. UTEP basketball isn't a calendar clearing event like it used to be for me.

You would bet anything? Already tried to bet you once and you took off !! I bet you utep will win at least 20 games next year !! If I win you can't post here for two months you win I'll do the same!!

What conditions?? I had like one and that was vince hunter returning!! ....and yes having AT LEAST 20 wins will be a good season......let's put it this way utep will be in the running to win Cusa next season... And don't give me your stupid crap about Cusa not being any good and who cares if they win the conference....you said you wanna bet, so let's bet!

No you don't. Winning this bet provides you more fuel for trolling this board (possibly others). Don't blow smoke.

If you don't want to add this to the bet it's fine because I forgot to type it in.....I was going to add if utep finishes 4- whatever but wins the Cusa tournament and gets to the dance I should get that because getting into the dance is considered a successful season..... Like I said you don't have to add it but I think that's fair

Actually, yes I do. I would gladly never post here again if UTEP actually made the NCAA tournament under Floyd next season. However, we will have another lame season and then next off-season, we will hear more of the same like we do every year, just like we did when Price was coaching.

Well yeah obviously, if they have a run like UAB did sure. However, if they finish 14th, have a losing record and win by a miracle in the CUSA tournament, then have to play as 16th seed Play in game and lose to a MEAC team, I don't consider that successful, do you?

Nattbury Says: Next year is a huge question mark! Not wise to make any bets either way.

Every year under Floyd is a big question mark.

maybe i am wrong but the way i see it is we have a lot more scoring options than we did this year.... flaggert, thomas, moore, morris, harris , touchet can all shoot the ball.... even romine seems to have a good looking shot... floyd always brings decent defense and if those guys can shoot..... then i see about 6 players averaging about 9-11 points per game and other teams not going to be able to focus on one guy and those are the toughest types of teams to defend... which is why i am making the bet...
