Not a regular topic here, but the UTEP cheerleading squad and Paydirt Pete are leaving tomorrow for Daytona, FL to compete in college nationals. The team consists of 21 members, of which only 2 are seniors and one is a junior. The rest are all sophomores or freshmen. The last UTEP national championship in cheer was in 2011 and the division has been won four years in a row by the University of Michigan.
This is the one and only event the team participates in that isn't for the benefit of another team or program at the university. While the fanbase will never be that of football or basketball, I hope you'll join me in wishing the team well in representing UTEP this week amongst some of the largest schools in the country.
