Longtime El Paso sports reporter Ray Sanchez dies at 94

Sports reporter Ray Sanchez worked for the El Paso Herald Post beginning in 1950. He also wrote columns for the El Paso Times and El Paso Inc.

I enjoyed his columns when they appeared in the El Paso Times. Those were the days of wall to wall UTEP coverage. Sad to lose another legend. RIP Ray.

Mr. Sanchez was a neighbor of mine for 40 yrs. I always saw him putting his golf clubs in the trunk of his car on the weekends and would wave if he noticed me in my front yard…as a kid and an adult. He even had his own golf cart stored on a trailer ready to go. My parents still live there and they’re the ones that told me about his passing before the news broke out today. I ran into him a couple of years ago at a grocery store and still had a sharp mind, sadly, him and his wife were put in a nursing home despite his reluctance. May you Rest In Peace Mr. Sanchez and GO Cowboys!
