Looking ahead to Louisville game

The losses to Utah Valley and San Jose St outweigh any “good loss” that this Louisville would bring. UTEP is in the 100s in NET, they’re not getting an at-large.
Im talking about let's say they do what Barbees tourney team did. They get on a big win streak and get maybe get ranked. But then they loose in the the championship game. Then I could see them getting an at large bid. That's the only scenario I could see for an at large bid. I believe Barbees team was 14-1 in conference and lost in the Championship game.

I don't think they would get in, but it's possible in that scenario. Barbee's team lost early and to the same team in the championship so that helped. Lets hope it doesn't come to that.

If this team keeps scoring and stays consistent and without injury I think they could actually win the CUSA tourney and give some good competition in the NCAA. I didn't feel this way about last years team.

The 2009-10 Miner team played in a better CUSA. They also played Ole Miss (NIT) and Oklahoma on neutral courts. They played at Texas Tech (NIT) and had BYU (NCAA) at home out of conference, along with h/h with NMSU (NCAA). This years team had the Louisville game, that’s it.

I really think they would have a hard time getting an at-large because the schedule lacks power teams or anyone really good. The best wins are Yale and UCSB.

How can you independently look at UTEP’s non-conference schedule and say it’s worthy of at-large consideration? 3 Non-D1s and 1 game vs a P5.

Last year, Boise St made the First Four. They played in a 6 bid league and played at Clemson and then had neutral court games vs Virginia Tech, VCU, Butler, St Mary’s, and Washington St.

We have a chance if we lose 2 more games and lose in the championship. A chance, but not a good chance.
For all the Fili acolytes:

Crappy C-USA is a ONE BID league

20-wins does not guarantee an at-large bid

Winning the regular season conference championship doesn’t mean SHITE

Being runner-up in your conference tournament championship also doesn’t mean SHITE

Winning the 1966 NCAA Championship doesn’t mean SHITE in 2025

The only pathway for UTEP to the NCAA Tournament is winning your damn conference tournament.

Understand now?
