The college basketball magazines are hitting the newsstands. Athlon predicts UTEP will finish 8th in CUSA while Lindys has the Miners finishing in 9th place. I haven't seen the Street and Smith magazine yet. That one in my opinion is the more reputable magazine.

Ouch. I don't have any predictions. This is the first year where I will go in with zero expectations.

I expect the same thing I've seen since Floyd arrived. Essentially, we'll play like an inexperienced team that seemingly lacks the basic fundamentals. Also, our half court offense will probably suck

WOW -- many had us near the top of CUSA last preseason.

Winn is our best player. Artis and Harris have some experience. Will Willms stay healthy and contribute? Everyone else just has potential, which means they haven't done anything.

No NCAA seems a sure bet. Under 20 wins seems pretty sure, too.

You may prove to be right in your assessment but I'm hoping the season will turn out better than that.

Wilms health will be a big deal and if he can play at least long enough for Kelvin Jones to get up to speed, that would help a lot. I expect Jones to be very good in time and hopefully be at least solid by conference play this year.

Winn is very good and hope to see Paul Thomas come in to his own this year and be a solid rebounder and defender.

The backcourt should be very good with Artis and Harris.

Newcomers like Arian Moore, Isiah Osbourne (if eligible) and others should contribute to a better team this year.

I see no reason why ball handling, dishing the ball, rebounding and scoring shouldn't all be better than last year. I hope defensively they improve as well.

9-3 OOC and 14-4 in conference play.

Still waiting for Paul Thomas to turn into the "next" Kevin Durant. Ha ha, I remember someone on this board saying this about the kid when he signed with UTEP. Unless this does happen I only see 17 to 21 wins. Basically another ho-hum season with a ridiculously easy schedule.

Stull doesn't use CUSA championships and NCAA appearances to evaluate Floyd's performance and is very happy with 18-24 wins with one of the easiest schedules in college basketball. So why should we expect anything more.
So I say we win around 20 games and decline our CBI invite.

I see it very similarly. The optimism might bite me in the ass, but it's a new year. Go Miners!

Ive been no fan of Floyd, but I do like some of the pieces he has put together. I still have faith in Paul Thomas. I saw him play in high school a few times and i think he can be a good player. He wont be anything like Kevin durant but i think he can average 12 points a game.

I like the new guys. Moore and Barrett seem like quality players. I like them because they arent risks or over hyped. Both are just winners with solid upside. We havent had near enough kids like that in the Floyd era.

The problem is still rebounding. Wilms even if healthy is not a d1 center. We still dont have a legit d1 one center on the roster.

Eighth or ninth sounds about right to me. UAB, WKU and La Tech are better than we are. This should be Rice's coming out party in basketball I expect a big year from the owls. The darkhorse to win the conference is UNT. They have the best player in the conference Keith Frazier and i really like thei collection of guards.

Im afraid we're in for another season of discontent in Minerland. The big question for this year is can we keep attendance over 6000.

21 wins and a semifinal appearance in the CUSA Tourney. A possible (not probable) NIT invite. If no NIT invite; no postseason play. Floyd still returns for 17-18 season.

Last year's C-USA picked us 4th, most others had us 4,5 or 6. That was with a handful of newcomers and some returning veterans. I think the low 8th place pick is fair, considering the number of newcomers on this year's team. I myself have no clue and will reserve a prediction for conference play until they have some 6 or 7 games under their belt, and see what kind of play Willms is able to contribute. If Willms can contribute some 20-22 minutes and be a nuisance defensively, I'd be happy. I have to see what the actual roster will look like after a few weeks of play.

I think Mr Jones will surprise you with his post play. Just a feeling I have and hopefully it's not just wishful thinking.

Heart wants 6-25 and a new coach for Christmas.
Head says 18-14 and a new coach for St. Paddy's Day.

Its time to give the Miners a new identity. I believe this team, with its guard heavy players, will be a run and gun offense that will hang 90 points per game on teams. I would call this team "Romp and Stomp". Get ready Miner fans because each game is going to a barn burner. I predict 25 wins...
It will happen...
UTEP matters.

Coming from the guy that still predicts 8 wins for the football team.

Makes me sick that UTEP is so down the totem pole. UNT would gladly trade the best basketball player in the conference for a new blocking sled for the football team if they could. Most CUSA schools don't give a flip about basketball and yet us, who care so much and dedicate so much to it, are worse than most of them. F Floyd. F Stull. UTEP basketball was a passion of mine and now I don't f%%%% care.

From your lips to God's ears. That crap run and gun bs didn't work work for Don Nelson and Mike D'Antoni, it won't work for Tim Floyd.

Then why are you still posting here?

Maybe it's better to say that I still care obviously. I just have no faith in Floyd to get a tournament bid. To make matters worse, I find with him at the helm, we are not one of the good guys", since we have a coach who runs guys out of town and gets into public fights, and has let the game pass him by.

Ohhhhh good lord what a baby!!

It's not dramatic to be unsatisfied with a coach who hasn't taken you past the first round of the NIT in 6 years. Any other coach with that resume would have been fired by now. The day Floyd retires becausr he'll bever get fired will be a good day for UTEP basketball.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just your post was over dramatic.

I think Uteps far from the worst team in CUSA, but I understand the frustration.

I think our team is actually good. Better than average. What's been missed is a reliable QB, an offensive gameplan that shows some imagination. The play calling from the sidelines has been awful. Does Kugker have something against the passing game? Has our OC been allowed to do his job? A ten year old kid can call more than three plays. Maybe Kugler should try using Torrez as a backup to Metz?

I agree with everything being said. At this point and time I feel like this offense can not come down from a deficit of more than 10 points. I do feel like that is more of an indictment on the head coach than the players because it looks like Metz has more willing to take shots down field.

Did Metz join the basketball team??

Honestly, didn't mean any harm. I read football on another post and just posted about football. Yeah, I do know what's going on, UTEP football sucks and so does men's basketball for a long time.
