North Texas ended up with a 2 seed in the NIT. They weren't getting in especially after crapping the bed the last couple of weeks, but they were at least close. I looked at their schedule, and i think 13 of their conference games were against teams in the bottom half of the NET. Those games hurt even if you win them and god forbid if you have an off night. The new CUSA probably isn't going to be a guaranteed multibid conference, but losing those teams should at least put the better teams in a little better position come March.

I think this is the most level headed and accurate post about this subject. I've probably been over estimating how good in basketball the conference might be and some have been over estimating how bad it may be. Truth is UTEP will be at the same point it was before the changes. Until we become more attractive for MWC or AAC it is what it is. Hope Golding keeps improving the basketball for now and Dimel keeps us consistent in Football, that's all we can ask right now.
I still prefer to be in the Mountain West
Football, football, football. If we can become consistent winners in football we'll get in the Mountain West eventually. If we don't establish a winning football program we will continue to freefall down the conference ladder regardless of what basketball does.
