Understood. I'm not saying MWC is still pursuing the MAC teams. I'm saying this is how to analyze the names currently being kicked around.
Northern Illinois said it has not received a "formal offer to consider a change" in its conference but appreciates the "interest in our strong brand". So who knows if the MWC says they will get more money than they do now, Toledo had no interest.
Not sure. They will get 1 or more AAC teams probably. It won’t be Sac St or NMSU though.
For the time being. If they didn’t have a better option than NMSU or Sac St, they would have added UTEP.
Not really. Since UTEP wasn’t a candidate for the Pac, them joining the MWC doesn’t change anything.

No. The Pac 12 is out of compliance now. They have to have 8 FBS members by 2026.
The MWC will be out of compliance in 2026 and would have 2 years to met requirements, which by 2028, Tarleton would.
Since they’re not losing teams until 2026, they have until 2028 to count Tarleton.
Again to be clear I mentioned Utep did reach out to the PAC Whatever. It’s obvious that either the PAC said no thanks or Utep wasn’t willing to commit what they asked for. Either way Utep has probably made the best decision for now. We definitely can’t complain as we all wanted out of CUSA. I can also see why many don’t want the old CUSA teams to follow us. I’m just wondering what’s the best play for the MWC to add. I’m surprised N. Dakota St. name hasn’t came up. If I’m the MWC they’d be my number one recruit for Football and St. Mary’s for Basketball and then I guess Tarleton St. for all sports.
I just believe what’s happening. MW teams signed agreements. Same with AAC. Texas St saw us take ourselves out of the race and decided to say no thanks to the MW.

If we take egos out of the picture, are there legal or financial reasons why the PAC and MWC can't schedule a merger for 2026 and solve both of their problems of dumpster diving for the last piece of pie? In my head it would provide a lot of stability to the teams in the West who just don't have a lot to choose from.
I get that it just isn't done, but is there a solid reason? I know this is so far out of the box it sounds like a different frequent poster here...

Right. For example, CUSA has both a GOR agreement and exit fees. In order to move to the MWC, UTEP will need to pay both in 2026. Now, the MWC also has the GOR and exit fees, so while movement in the future would be costly, it could still be an option for some schools. But Tarleton wouldn't count in 27 as part of the 8 they need another FBS full-time. From my understanding you need 8 minimum full-time schools at the FBS level, transitioning FCS schools don't count unless they get a waiver from the NCAA.
