OT: New Mexico do you go? If so where?

Better to be safe? What the heck are you talking about?

What do you think is going to happen to you in Arizona? If you're doing nothing wrong you have nothing to be worried about.
I don't have to be doing nothing wrong driving while brown is enough to arouse suspicion in Arizona.

New Mexico and Arizona are beautiful states. All this hate for New Mexico is absurd. So, why should the New Mexico Dept of Tourism also promote El Paso? That makes little to no sense. Actually, it's stupid. And tourists who truly want to visit New Mexico, fly into Albuquerque and go from there.
I've had the pleasure of living in El Paso (17 years), Albuquerque (23 years), and now Chandler, AZ (Phoenix suburb; 3 years), and each locale is great for its own reasons.

By the way...Joe Arpaio was only the Sheriff of Maricopa County. He didn't patrole the entire State of Arizona. Besides, he's no longer Sheriff. He was replaced in office by Paul Penzone on January 1.

Some around here are humorless and can't take a little bit of trolling. If it comes to talking down on El Paso it's a go.

If this is me you're referring to, your assessment is incorrect . I have a great sense of humor! Of course, you'd have to truly know me to render judgment. Your spiteful statements about a state near and dear to me was anything but funny, in my humble opinion. I would also never, and have never, talked down on El Paso. It is my birth city and where I was raised. I defend EP all the time to its naysayers.

I wasn't talking about you. The other person who at every instance possible pushes his pro LC agenda. For everyone like you there are 10 out there opposite of your beliefs. I have seen multiple comments on news and sports message boards where New Mexicans say worse things about El Paso than my lame attempt at humor. Excuse me if I'm not excited to share in everyone else's love affair with New Mexico.

Me? What pro LC agenda do I have? I mentioned La Posta which is in Mesilla and so did another poster. I think New Mexico is a beautiful state.

I know El Paso is a great city so I don't care what anybody else says about it. I have no vitriol towards New Mexico or any state.

What does that have to do with what we're talking about?
Nothing more than you're anti liberal comment that derailed a whole thread and led to it's deletion, wasn't the first time you've interjected a political comment into a thread either. Not to mention the horrid Nazi comment a month ago, surprised everyone here let it go. Oh wait, that wasn't you, it was utep05.

I made one comment and others commented. It was a pretty peaceful discussion.

Nazi comment? I have never mentioned Nazis and I have no clue why talking about Nazis would even be discussed on here.

If you have the privilege to know some one who owns land in Lincoln County I highly suggest you camp out in the hills that Billy the Kid traversed while hiding out and roamed as a "Regulator". There is a reason they call it the "The land of Enchantment" and a reason people chose to live in there back then (mostly to escape entities they owed money to or the law). Going to public areas is fine, but going to mostly untouched land in that area literally soothes the soul and awe inspiring.

Fly into Albuquerque to visit Las Cruces/southern NM? No...

Well said, 2step.

Most of the touristy stuff is up north. Taos (and southern Colorado) skiing, Santa Fe Opera, Chaco Canyon, state capitol, etc.

My point is this: if you don't believe there's a healthy anti-El Paso bias among many New Mexicans, you're delusional.

Meh, who cares? I don't travel to/in NM for the people. As someone stated earlier, it really is the land of enchantment. That alone makes a visit to NM worth it.

As far as the residents of NM goes, and by no means to sound holier than thou, but I deal with them as people rather than New Mexicans. Seems to go a long way.

Like I said, it was Utep 05 that wrote it,(the Nazi comment) and we all know you're not him (cough cough). Besides, I'm sure it's been deleted by now by him (cough cough). So you made a comment (having nothing to do with the thread that leads to the thread being deleted) and it's ok? Unihorn does the same, and you get on his case. Look, I'm not going to go back and forth, I've learned to pick my battles with you. But I do love to point out your hypocrisy utep05, oops, I mean sports fan

Again, why would Nazis be discussed on a sports forum? What was it in reference to? Are you just making things up now?

You're the person who keeps responding to my posts. I don't know why you do, but then you get in a hissy fit and accuse me of "going back and forth". Can you please just calm down. Please and thank you.

The Gila National Forest west of Hillsboro which is west of Caballo off I-25 is a relatively short drive from El Paso. If you consider 2 hours a short drive. Worth the trip in Southwest NM.

Also, the wineries in La Union area are worth a visit...Practically in El Paso's backyard.

Some thoughts:

I agree whole heartedly with the Sparky's recommendation, and I stop in Hatch to enjoy a Sparky's burger whenever I go to Albuquerque. Burgers cooked over pecan wood topped with cheese and the local green chiles - amazing!

In Albuquerque, I found an inexpensive banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) shop named Banh Mi Coda. If you go get the lemon grass beef banh mi - delicious.

In Albuquerque, the Bio Park contains a very nice zoo for a city that size (it's head and shoulders above the El Paso Zoo), as well as a decent botanical gardens and aquarium. My family has also enjoyed the New Mexico State Fair the last couple of years.

Everyone I believe loves Cloudcroft and Ruidoso - it's beautiful up there. If visiting Ruidoso, and if you're into history, I would strongly suggest a side trip to Lincoln, where you can learn all about Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War.

When it comes to Southern California Mexican food I love the *berto's taco stands. Both the carne asada and California burritos are amazing, and I MUCH prefer flautas covered in guacamole and real cheese than floating in dishwater consistency tomato sauce and covered in horrible government cheese. For sit down Mexican restaurants, however, I much prefer those in El Paso.

One final note: as you can see above, I obviously agree with the idea that Chicos is overrated, but In-n-Out? I haven't had a better fast food burger than a double double animal style (though a Lotaburger with cheese and green chile is pretty damn good).

Never had a Sparky's Burger in Hatch -- will check it out.

Whataburger > In 'n Out

I prefer the green chile cheeseburgers in San Antonio, NM. You can't go wrong with either the Buckhorn Tavern or Owl Cafe. Both places make world renowned green chile cheeseburgers. I highly enjoy both, but prefer the Buckhorn. San Antonio is located just south of Socorro (where UTEP football camp used to be held), which is an hour from Albuquerque.

Route 66 Hotel Casino. Perfect place for a family with young kids. It has a child care are that is fun for the kids. The casino has several restaurants and the gaming is good. I've been going for the the 10 years or so.
