Predictions on Utep's first win of the season vs NMSU

The job was offered to Mike Houston. He would have taken it but he wanted 1.5 million per season. He wouldn't take a penny less. I heard our best offer was 1.1 million. He turned down the job. A year later he went to ECU for 1.5 million a year. He got an extension last year that now pays him 2.1 million a year.
This is the problem. UTEP has to up the pay to attract better candidates. Problem is if you’re gonna offer weak pay, you’re going to attract weak candidates.

Jim Mora Jr now the coach at UCONN also applied for the job. I don't think he was ever seriously considered but he wanted the job.

Colby Carthell, the coach at SFA lobbied for the job. He was coming off a d2 national title at A&M Commerce. Several big time Texas high school coaches called Senter lobbying for him to hire Carthell. I don't think he was a finalist
Well now is the time to get Carthel on the line. He seems to be doing well at SFA. Let Dimel finish the year, thank him for the rebuild, and give Carthel a chance to take it to the next level.

Looks like we need to suck it up and offer a decent salary to get a decent coach. The administration had better be working on this immediately if not sooner. NMSU has a new coach who appears to be better regarded than the pundits expected the Aggies to be able to get. They will be tougher in the future. Florida International also has a new coach that is better than expected. The Miners need to be doing the same.

Exactly. NMSU can get a coach like Jerry Kill, we should be able to do better than Dim Hole.

It's not just that. The athletic department is the most incompetently run department in FBS. We've already been passed by Houston SMU Rice UTSA and UNT. You would think we would've learned something, we haven't. I just saw the other day that NMSU was investing $30 million in new locker room facilities for their stadium. I mentioned a few weeks ago if NMSU stopped prioritizing basketball and invested in football they could pass us by for any future open slots in the Mountain West. In five years Senter has raised $0 for facilities at UTEP. The Sun Bowl upgrades were done under Stull. Senter came in when that was already in the bag. He's raised zero dollars and is completely clueless. There has to be change in the AD'S office. Everybody in that office needs to be replaced. We literally have no time to waste.

I agree with you. However, any significant changes, like a move to replace Senter, would need to come from Wilson. When she was first hired, my hope was that she would provide progressive leadership from the top in support of UTEP athletics, with the mentality that academics and athletics can and should coexist. Instead, we have seem more of the same lack of true commitment to the "face of the university" as the previous administration.

Senter's inability to fundraise, which was supposedly his strength as an AD, by itself, is a fireable offense. I joked earlier regarding NMSU AD Moccia being the guy who is seemingly running the show at UTEP. The ironic thing about that is I think he would be a huge upgrade from Senter. I'm not implying UTEP should hire Moccia. I am just pointing out a guy who would do a better job than Senter. Similarly, to his decision to extend Terry's contract, Senter has now likely tied our hands with Dimel. I don't see anyone coming in and hiring Dimel away, as was the case with Terry. Hopefully, Dimel can pickup some wins like last year against some really bad teams. At this point, this is our best case scenario.

While it's cool to wish for a better coach and complain about Dimel, it's pointless 3 games into the season. Moan as loud as you want and no changes would come til the end of the season. That's if UTEP doesn't make a Bowl game, because of that somehow that still happens Dimel will be here next year for y'all to talk about having another HC all over again JS.

A) Natalico focused on the entire campus. I think it was great, but many on here disagree. https://www.utep.edu/facilities-management/_Internal/Links/UTEPCampusMasterPlan2011.pdf

B) UTEP athletics went full tilt on the "fan experience" for their revenue sports.
Football: https://www.ktsm.com/sports/college...hase-three-to-be-ready-for-kickoff-in-august/
Basketball: https://www.stjoe-macomb.com/don-haskins-center-to-rethink-hardwood/

C) NMSU has not prioritized basketball over football, the exact opposite actually. Sunland Park Casino (Stan Fulton; R.I.P) built the football facilities. NMSU is really behind on the athletic curve.

D) Moccia is using his frequent flyer miles big time (his hustling for donors on local sports radio interviews) the past few years and it is paying off some dividends. He has a helluva job balancing it all and spreading the funds. But it does pay dividends.
"Football has already made use of its portion of the gift, purchasing a CoachComm sideline communication system which makes in-game communication between coaches on the field and in the press box possible. This system made its debut on the sidelines in the Aggies' 32-26 triumph over Dixie State on March 7, 2021. In addition to the CoachComm system, Aggie football will also be on the receiving end of a new video server which helps NM State coaches and staff members break down film from both practice and games."

E) "The Board approved an issuance of revenue bonds to the tune of $28.5 million that will be used to finance four facility improvement projects across campus, including a $15 million locker room addition inside Aggie Memorial Stadium, across from the Hall of Legends."

Their locker room is ok

F) "UAB’s football budget has experienced the 14th-largest proportional increase since 2014 and the fourth-largest increase among G5 programs in the last five years...Since UAB brought back football, athletic director Mark Ingram has helped the university raise more than $100M in funding, designed and constructed a $22.5M football practice facility, hired former Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy as the new men’s basketball coach, and also saw its student-athletes record the highest grade-point average in school history, [per UAB’s athletic website]."

How? They get the right coaches and people. You can't put the locker room ahead; that comes after.

Such a shame that people can’t be bothered to pick up their trash. I bet the campus and parking lots looked even worse. And these people will be the first to say “This is BS… we should be able to tailgate as long as we want.”

Where were the pictures when the “sold out” crowd was there 2 weeks ago? The 23,000 there on Saturday were more messy than with 20,000 extra more people there?

That’s one way to put a positive spin on it.
Let’s see the trash from an Alabama game or the the trash from 2 weeks ago. People leave trash at football games all around the country.

Some idiot left a grill on at a NFL game yesterday and burned down 3 cars. If that happened here, the morality police would be on high alert.
