Dear Tim,
Were we wrong to have such high expectations for this season? There was so much preseason hype with the recruiting class ratings plus the caliber of the returnees. Unfortunately, the two big guys; Willms and Jones went down and then the screwy situation with McSwiggan emegred which was all preceded by Omega's ineligibilty. You were, in my eyes along with many others the saviour of the program. I haven't given up yet, but it sure looks bleak. Three consecutive bad, bad losses. Like I asked before, were we out-of-line to have these expectations and what were yours? What can we expect for the rest of the season?

Is he somehow at fault for the injuries to Wilms and Jones? With those two healthy, this team was damn good.

How do we know they were Damn Good with those two. Wilms only played once against an NAIA School and Buddha played twice against feeble competition. Not saying they wouldn't make a difference, cause I think they would, but the jury was still out on being Damn Good or even Plain Good.

I think losing our two bigs really changed the dynamics of this team!! Hopefully jones is able to come back by conference time

I'm done believing TF can do anything with this program.

How did it change the dynamic that much? One of the players missing hasn't played one second of division 1 basketball. The other wasn't a huge rebounding force to begin with. Like most of the UTEP teams over the last six season this group looks thrown together and incomplete. Maybe things change drastically over the next couple months and they get it together for a few games in March. But so far this team looks like every other iteration of Floyd's teams here.

I echo Luca's sentiments.

It continues to amaze me how people assign savior-like powers to players who aren't playing. "We'll be better when we get Omega back," or "McSwiggan would be a huge boost," or "Wait until Jones gets better."

The phrase "thrown together and incomplete" are the four words that have marked Floyd's tenure at UTEP. We're continually hoping we'll get our act together come conference tournament time.

Well, I hope we do, too. But based on past records, I'm not holding my breath.

I can't argue with everyone's fustration at this time, but I truely believe CTF will right the ship for this program. And I too confess I am a homer too.

Within what time frame? Or do you have one?

Also, just curious what your belief is predicated upon.

Maybe I am wrong but a 7 footer (Willms could alter shots at the hoop) and jones could have helped a lot with rebounding as well... Those two available and I doubt we are as bad a rebounding team as we are and if we did well on the boards I think things could have been different in those losses

My question to Floyd would be, what do the redshirts do during their developmental year?

There is no noticeable difference in the games of Vint, Flaggert, Touchet, and Caldwell. I would say Winn too, because I think he was already this good a year ago.

I don't recall a single player who's developed well under Floyd, with maybe the exception of Hunter but we all know Hunter put in his own hard work.

Additionally, I've yet to see a cohesive team that executes the simple fundamentals under Floyd. That's inexcusable after all these years.

Floyd has been a great coach throughout his years, but the only thing I see now is a guy who takes a very harsh/aggressive approach to discipline, and runs off a large fraction of the kids he recruits. I'm ready for a different approach....

A large fraction of kids he runs off?? Who? We have lost a few here n there but that seems to be normal nowadays

Look at both the original post, and my initial response, for a list of players that were recruited by Floyd who never made it campus, made it to campus but not to the court, or played for us but left before their eligibility was complete. It is a depressingly long list, and much larger than it is for the typical school.

My belief is on his lifetime achievements as an asst coach here and HC at every college school he has been at.

My time frame is also closing if things don't change within the next two years. But I'm not giving up on this year yet. Winning Saturday could be a huge lift for this team.

We're any of those losses game changers?

I don't know about the rest of you all, but even though maybe foolishly keeping the faith in our coach and BB team, alot of people have their own opinion on what they feel about CTF and the team.
I just think it's great that we could vent and hear different views without those two Trolls anymore. I actually enjoying reading all the post again without it getting derailed.

Someone, please enlighten me. What have I missed? The trolls are gone? What happened and how did I miss the event?

I don't know if they got kicked off the board or could be that everyone on the board did a real good job of ignoring any of their post and they just got discourage. It's been about 3 weeks now.

As far as I see, UTEP has only one bad loss and that was against the Cougars. NMSU and UT Arlington are good teams and far ahead of WSU, at least this year. Clean up the perimeter defense, rebound better, MAKE THE DAMN FREE THROWS (UTEP leaves probably 10-12 points off the scoreboard with the missed FT's), threaten Winn to keep his fouling to 1 in the first half because UTEP needs him inside, and things will get better.

Thomas and Touchet are coming along nicely and their confidence is growing every game. Omega needs to go to the Newman Center and get right with Jesus so he can be a leader of this team and Budha will be back very soon.

Replacing JWash, Hunter and CLang was going to be painful. Two of these three are NBA caliber players and that's not easy to replace. UTEP got DA and Winn came in but even with Wilms and Budha active they can't make up the loss of those two alone.

The two of them disappeared at the exact same time. Either they are Siamese twins, or split personalities of the same being.

Yeah, but for how long? You know they'll be back with a new handle and then claim they don't know what we're talking about when we accuse them of being who they really are. It'll be obvious when they do come back, so when they do...let's continue to ignore them.

Totally agree with you and towards the end of their reign everybody was doing a good job of not taking their bait.

NMSU? We'll see just how good they are this week. If they can go into The Pit tonight and defeat UNM, I'd say you're fairly accurate. I personally think they'll get their lunches eaten and then beat over their collective heads with the lunchboxes.

Looks like you were right. UNM clobbered the Aggies by 18. NMSU is now 5-5 including a loss to AFA. They are not good. UTEP really needs a win this Saturday to start turning this season around.

Last game we got out played by their guards and that just can't happen this time around.

Of note, NMSU's second leading scorer, PG Ian Baker (who tore us up in Cruces), suffered a head injury in last night's game and is currently undergoing the concussion protocol. He laid motionless on the court for several minutes after he ran into a screen set by UNM. I do hope he is alright, but his status for Saturday's game is questionable.
