I remember a couple of games in particular where a sold-out crowd made a huge difference. Circa 1988, the Miners were playing for a bowl bid against Air Force in the Sun Bowl. The stadium was standing room only, the crowd was rowdy, huge. I was standing along the southern edge of the concourse watching the game with Pat Hagerty's brother. The game was tough but the Miners pulled out the win for the honor of facing Bret Farvre in the Independence Bowl.
Then once again in 2004, the Miners were on the verge of having a good season when nationally ranked Fresno State came to town. I don't know if it was a sellout but the stadium was near capacity. Once again, a raucous crowd helped the Miners win a hard-fought victory over a tough but fair Bulldog team. May have been our last victory over a nationally ranked team.
We have another opportunity to shock the world on November 6th as unbeaten and ranked UTSA comes to town. Will this be our toughest opponent ever? No. Will it be our greatest victory ever? Not by a long shot. But it will be an opportunity to let the country know we are back on the college football map. We can win but it will take a great game by the Miners and a great crowd in the stands. What do you say Miner fans?

Going off of TicketMaster for tickets sold is a losing proposition. UTEPs season tickets are way under 10,000. Wait until some media member gives you a ticket count. NattyLight said he had a source that said “30k” and we ended up with 18k.
Don’t believe anyone who tells you it’s anything more than 10k at this point.
I agree. Season tickets are at about 6-7k. Add that to the 11k or whatever the news guy said and we arrive at 18k.

If you follow some of the national sportswriters on social media, it's kind of amazing the amount of mentions and buzz there is for UTEP out there. Imagine if UTEP wins the next 2 or miracle of miracles wins out and UTEP will be a national story!
So can @JCorona continue to provide us with ticket sale updates? Although it's not an exact science, maybe of us find it interesting, myself included
I started tracking sales since last week to see how many people were buying the 3 game mini packs. Now that we know how those numbers correlate to actual attendance we should be able to make a more educated guess on what sales are.
Yup, I don't pretend to know, I was told that and posted it and said that's what I was told. Didn't state it as fact or from first hand knowledge. Many thought it was going to be more and looked like more like 20,000, but maybe that's just, cause we haven't even seen that many fans in awhile. At this point I think it's pretty obvious they need to get more aggressive with ticket sale prices to get people out there and then maybe raise prices again, once people see it's an improved product and will justify paying as such. If we beat FAU UTEP should get 30,000, but based on the numbers against La Tech, it may only be 20,000 who knows anymore. Just happy to see them winning.
Is there anything else important to do in El Paso?? Any Pitbull or Mana concerts going on that Saturday???
The game is at 2:00? The fight will be around 10ish. Yeah that should affect attendance for sure
Yeah, not like people don’t have parties and have wives and stuff. “Hey babe, I’m gonna go watch football for 4 hours, then you’re going to clean the house, so I can get drunk again while watching the fight.” If you’re a bachelor, still that’s a long day, assuming you don’t work or have other commitments, which would likely happen during the 2pm UTEP game.
Will Canelo siphon a majority of people? No, but he still will.
Check again. Locomotive have one of the best attendance in all of USL.
Right and while the Loco game will be at 7 or something, it’s still “hard” to attend a 4 hour football game and then attend a 2 hour soccer game. And that’s assuming you want to pay for both of them.
There will be a few hard-core sport fanatics that will attend both. It will take away fans from UTEP, not a lot but some. Good thing it's an early game and not going head to head.

I wonder what a dedicated soccer stadium with nice amenities could do for attendance? #1 or #2 I would guess.
Can only guess with the “feeders” like LA Galaxy II, why see them when I can see the actual LA Galaxy MLS team. Other than those anomalies idk why it would be so low.
I didn't phrase it right. Why do some teams only have 8 or 5 home games while the rest have 14 games?
Cincinnati proper and the suburbs that are in N. Kentucky is about 500,000. FC Cinci has a very nice new stadium of 26,000. That size “might” work for ELP.
Cincinnati build their stadium that size knowing they were next in line for MLS. Imo the perfect USL stadium is 12-15k.
Bigger than I was thinking (I was thinking 10-12k), but that size would be cool with me. It would be awesome to see more soccer in El Paso.
I've said many times before, if we are EVER to get a pro team it would be MLS (and yes I know it's not happening any time soon, but things change).

Or build a stadium like San Antonio's. It has a capacity of 8k but can be expanded to 18k. 18-22k is the perfect size for an MLS stadium. Austin's is only 20k.

In reference to the MWC, there was a time when UTEP was a significantly better choice than SJSU and even Utah State, yet UTEP chose to remain aligned with the Texas schools and SJSU and Utah State eventually took MWC offers to join.

In hindsight, we can question Stull’s motives and desires. Maybe if we stuck it out in the WAC, we would be better off today. However, Stull decided to keep Price too long, hired Kugler, and kept Floyd too long. Those decisions are why UTEP is in the position they’re in.
I thought it was because we bring nothing in TV dollars, exposure and perceived football quality.
Zero guarantee that the coach after Price or Kugler would turn us into UCF. There's not much we can do about the other two.
How much of that is tied to the rumors that some of the big boosters were calling the shots in the program. We heard the rumors that boosters loved Floyd, and Price. Stull also did himself no favors by keeping it in the family.
Well if you suck at football, but you didn’t then your perceived low football quality isn’t a factor. If you don’t suck, maybe people want to see UTEP play on TV. Do you think only people in Boise and Orlando are the ones watching BSU and UCF games?
This was an issue before Dimel was hired. Unless we hired a name coach and started winning right away, it changes nothing. Senter and Dimel only continued the decline.
MW didn't even want to invite Boise even though they had won BCS bowls in the wac until they were forced to.
We can all agree UTEP will never be at that level.
Maybe if we were a consistent bowl team the MW would want us but I doubt it. They rather gamble on a big market school turning good than select us. Unfortunately for them that's gone. It's us and Texas St or stay away from Texas.
Maybe it was a mistake on their part to not be more proactive and grab Rice and UTSA? Maybe it will work out in their favor. Rice, UTSA, and UNT are not home runs by any means.

IDK, the MW wated us, then they didn't want us. They wanted us again, now they don't want us again. I imagine they'll want us again in the future.
Louisville has a nice new dedicated soccer stadium and they are number 1.
