Depth wins NCAA championships in track and cross country not having one elite star win 1-2 events. UTEP has done really well in track, we have placed a lot winners in first, but we don't have a lot of depth after that. Unless you are an elite program like Oregon where you offer a lot of split scholarships and build depth you will never compete and win an NCAA track championship. Of course this is all Bob Stull's doing and he should have "had a plan in place" to keep this from happening. Many of those championship teams of the 80's won, but they almost bankrupted the whole program by being over budget and not bringing a lot of revenue in. Choices had to be made and they were not easy, but we would not be talking about much Miner ball if they had not been made right. Stull has had to make a lot of these as well in his time here, so we are going to call him out for this? Kugler and Price underperforming? as compared to what? Billy Alton?, Jim Yung?, Gil Bartosh?, Gary Nord? Kugler and Prices teams are miles and miles improved form that era. I have seen a lot of bad football from UTEP but It sure hasn't been for the last 10 years or so. I was at the Sun Bowl back in the 70's when Frank Kush at Arizona State started his THIRD String against UTEP and still beat us by 50, we opened at powerhouse IDAHO one year and lost 76 to 3, now that is bad underperforming football. Bob Stull yes he really has screwed us. Did you know our football training table when school was out used to be meal vouchers at LUBY'S? and they weren't even all you could eat, they had a 8 dollar limit? Stull got that changed really quick once he got here, he told me he was ashamed that a 250 lb lineman had to survive on a "luann" plate a day. How about the Durham center did Larry just walk up one day and "Hey UTEP I would like donate a few mill or so, here is the check" of course Stull had nothing to do with that, he just said thank you Larry. And then we have the MWC conference invite screw-up that Bob is credited for. MWC presidents never wanted UTEP in the MWC some of them made public statements to the effect "we can't send our student athletes to the war zone that is the US/Mexico border" and "El Paso is not a place we would like to have to send our student athletes too" of course that's Bob's fault too. I am not a Bob Stull fan but to blame him for all our misfortunes on the field and for the conference we are in is stupid. There is a lot of blame to go around, I would like to blame the couple who played pocket pool on the mountain on national TV, the Tail-Gate Fans next to me one year who left broken bottles, trash and a loaded diaper next to were I parked, students who have a section reserved for them and never show and posters like myself who never really appreciate what so many have done to allow me to watch a college game and who is critical of everything accomplished.
