A blast from the past.

Back in 2007 Billy Gillespie announced he was leaving UTEP to coach at Texas A&M. Shortly thereafter, several players announced they were transferring as well. Back in the day, when I use to listen to KLAQ, the morning show crew pulled an April Fool's prank by announcing that the entire UTEP team quit, and that the university was going to host open tryouts. Sure enough, several would be "ballers" were lined up outside the Don Haskins Center ready to showcase their skills. Needless to say, UTEP administration was pretty pissed off.

Ha! I worked at KLAQ back then! As far back as I can remember I've known would-be athletes who saw Rudy or Invincible and thought open tryouts were some kind of common occurrence.

Buzz, Duke and Monster always knew where to hit the egos and gullibility of locals. I also remember when Teresa was reporting Barack Obama would be at the El Paso Airport
