Now Utep needs a PG.
With the news of Bieniemy, we could be losing our top 3 scorers...all guards. I'd call that an exodus. C'mon ova Newton Brothers!!!Another guard. Kind of feels like Golding is getting ready for a guard exodus.
I think we can see where this is going, and why Kappy is pushing so hard for the Newtons. Interesting that we have yet to hear of UTEP reaching out to either one yet, at least publicly. With the news of Bieniemy, we could be losing our top 3 scorers...all guards. I'd call that an exodus. How many HC's does he need to be successful at Texas? Wouldn’t be surprised if Henson joins him soon too. Since he seems to want all the HC's from the Texas school system.UTRGV’s Coach Figger might be joining Beard’s staff in Austin.
Kennedy played extremely well at the point when JB was out. Not sure where he fits in at the next level, however it's not as a SF.Now Utep needs a PG.
In my opinion, Kennedy lacks the ball handling capabilities to be anything more than a serviceable back up point guard. Against UNM, for some reason, Pitino chose not to put any ball pressure on Kennedy. Golding acknowledged that teams adjusted soon after and the results were not optimal. I doubt Golding would choose to go into the season with Kennedy at the point, assuming he stays. Perhaps a combination of Boum/Kennedy if they stay, but that is still not a great option. Golding has already started targeting transfer point guards, including the one from Evansville (Givance).Kennedy played extremely well at the point when JB was out. Can Evan's play point?Kennedy played extremely well at the point when JB was out. Not sure where he fits in at the next level, however it's not as a SF.
No clue. Tristan Newton can play point. Better than JB. Golding should still be talking to him as we speak. Can Evan's play point?
I think the Newton brothers are a package deal and they will both want to start. A starting position is open for Tristen but I dont think for the other brother. I think they will go somewhere where both can start. My sleeper team is NMSU, they could both start there and close to home.No clue. Tristan Newton can play point. Better than JB. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Kennedy played point and shot the ball before he got injured. It was a bug jump from last year. I would expect him to continue to progress in that regard so he can attempt the next level. In my opinion, Kennedy lacks the ball handling capabilities to be anything more than a serviceable back up point guard. That would really suck, but good thought. I think they lost too much though. There's plenty of minutes for both Newton brothers to play now that Bieniemy is leaving. First, there is no reason to have guys playing ~nearly 40 minutes per game. With the type of pressure defense Golding is trying to run, you need more true bench guys (see TT for example). That's why Golding continues to recruit all these guards. Second, minutes that went to Agnew and Saterfield should be up for grabs. We need more from those spots. That would really suck, but good thought. I think they lost too much though. Does anyone know how “El Paso” the Newton brothers are? Did they just go to high school here? Did they actually grow up here?Do they want to be close to home? It seems like they got as far away from EP as they could after hs.
I don't think there's any team that will be contending for an NCAA appearance that's going to guarantee both of them starting jobs.
I don't think it has as much to do with El Paso as much as it has to do with an opportunity to play at a big time basketball program.Does anyone know how “El Paso” the Newton brothers are? Did they just go to high school here? Did they actually grow up here?
JB is not NBA ready. He lacks upper body strength, his mid range is not bad but not NBA good (an absolute must for the NBA), his explosiveness to the basket is lacking and can he endure an absolute grueling NBA schedule because he was out for sickness or slight injuries? Tends to disappear during critical games times. Does an NBA team want to deal with a bit of a helicopter (former pro) parent?
I agree. Just wondering where all these fans think that “coming home” to El Paso is something they want.I don't think it has as much to do with El Paso as much as it has to do with an opportunity to play at a big time basketball program.
I'm not sure if you are referring to Eric Bieniemy, 2step. If so, Eric is JBs uncle, and would have little impact on any NBA future. Not sure if I missed something.JB is not NBA ready. Strengths: Tons of room to grow (in the D league and bulk up) and can be a good backup if a team gets the injury bug. Can develop a stronger shooting set as his shooting improved tremendously the last two years. High learning I.Q.. Good character and can block out distractions around him. Pretty good defender. Can compete with top talent. Daddy Bienemy is very opinionated and thin skinned but the upside is he can prepare him for the demands of pro sports and some organizations welcome former pro families into their tent, some don't.
Smooth guy. Pretty sure I saw him at the RICE game. Commanded a lot of respect from JB's team mates.I'm not sure if you are referring to Eric Bieniemy, 2step. If so, Eric is JBs uncle, and would have little impact on any NBA future. Not sure if I missed something.
Basically he can go wherever he wants, but who will take his brother as well.I don't think it has as much to do with El Paso as much as it has to do with an opportunity to play at a big time basketball program.
Or that we give a shit what he thinks....
Somebody knows something. Both entering the transfer portal was forecasted and now it's being reported that UTEP recruiting them is a '"priority".Where did the idea that he wants to play with his brother originate from? Is that something he has expressed? Or is it generated by the EP media?

Louisiana Christian, UTEP and Alcorn State is all I could see for offers (twitter).
Loof Lirpa is apparently dead and will not sign with UTEP
Wow! Thanks Fili! Finally a great post from you! And without any questions. Thanks for posting this."UTEP: They’re in the conference USA which is guard heavy and the last two player of the years were scoring guards. Not only that I have a good relationship with their coaching staff. Coach Spriggs is from Philadelphia so we have a good connection out there and it’s a different scenery from the city oh Philadelphia. "
