I’m thinking these announcements today had to do with the team meetings and what their role would be going forward. Seems like these are mutual decisions. I definitely believe Coach Golding and staff know exact ly what they are looking for to be successful where as Terry recruited talent and didn’t know how to utilize their skill sets. Very interesting. Hey…two starters for St Peter’s and their 6th man entered the portal. 😆
Yep. CJG is making room. I'm sure he has players lined up for those spots.
They did…but that guard play was amazing. It will be interesting to see who might take a chance on them.
i like Uteps chances here. Utep is the better of the 3 and there is a starting spot waiting for him.

Significant loss for Golding. UTEPs top recruiter.
Prior to UTEP a player or coach is the next Hardaway/Haskins. After they leave, they sucked anyway.
I'm aware of the narrative. I'm just curious where he's getting it from right now.

Yep I can't imagine we can recover from this mass exodus. I thought with all the peripheral players leaving that we could keep Boum and Kennedy. I wouldn't blame KK for leaving now too if those are his plans. Not sure what the issue is but so far this is looking really bad for Golding.
Unimpressed with Golding’s recruiting so far. Unable to close the deal on a big last year which would have allowed a run at a conference title and possible tournament appearance. His success his first year can largely be attributed to Terry’s leftovers. With the mass player and coaching exodus, next year is looking like a disaster.
Boum’s departure makes him the eighth member of the 2021-22 UTEP roster to leave – so far – since the season ended. Alfred Hollins graduated; Christian Agnew, Jorell Saterfield, Bonke Maring and Emmanuel White entered the Transfer Portal; Tydus Verhoeven and Boum entered both the NBA Draft and the Portal, keeping their options open; and Jamal Bieniemy turned pro while hiring an agent, ending his collegiate career.
Also hitting UTEP on Wednesday was the departure of assistant coach Butch Pierre. According to a report from Jon Rothstein, Pierre is heading to Wichita State to join Isaac Brown’s staff.
A well-regarded recruiter, Pierre helped bring multiple players to El Paso in year one under Joe Golding, including Jamari Sibley. The timing of Pierre’s departure could hurt UTEP because as the Miners are in need of bringing in top players, their top recruiter is on his way out.

The timing of Pierre leaving will hurt, as he was involved with several of the current UTEP targets, especially in JC. The mass exodus was not unexpected from those close to the program. Golding mentioned he had a good idea of who was leaving the program when the season ended, and mentioned on several occasions the need to start recruiting asap. Hopefully after the lousy news this week, Golding will be able to turn things around after the no contact period ends. This will be the new reality at this level moving forward.
Doesn't that dude have legal matters to settle first?
What I find most alarming is that players that could get big minutes next year are either going JUCO, burning their one-time transfer, or sitting out a year instead of sticking around. It's not like we have the cavalry coming in and those guys know they'll be on the bench.
Maybe Golding is not as well-liked as we thought he is.
