Utep is getting better, I'll admit. I watched the last two ball games and we should've won both. It wasn't a matter of talent or anything that can not be fixed. It was mistakes, like penalties, turnovers and missed opportunities. This team had it's chances to close out both games last week, but just isnti ready to close the deal! Oh and losing Kai before a big 4th and 1 didn't help either.

I don’t agree with the play calling either. 4th and 1 I think you have to run the ball. Isn’t that where you trust Dimel or Wadley to get you that yard?

True. However in the postgame show I thought Dimel said they had the box stacked anticipating the run on 4/1. Maybe I heard wrong. Either way, what do you have to lose.

I think I remember hearing the same thing. Losing your QB the play before probably made that next minute a complete mess. I can’t imagine they would run a pass with Locksley in there.

Have you all noticed something in the cosmological space time warp between the KState/UTEP HC world? Two coaches, one HC at KState and one at UTEP, who go decades back. One whom always knew how to "Seal the Deal" and win and one who almost seemed to "git'er done", but couldn't. Now both can't get it done.

I can't think of one time that Tom Brady hasn't run a "sneak" when the Patriots are in the same situation.

I was in SA for the game. I think the past two year's teams would have rolled over and not made it competitive. These guys look like they care about playing more than previous years. Playcalling hurt us this game when it counted most and dumb alittle penalties. There's been improvement from last year to this year, even from the first game to this game. Sooner or later there will be a breakthrough. Also, Mason Fine is questionable for the game on Saturday. He is the UNT QB hopefully he doesnt play and it wont be a big blowout

It feels like no matter which play the coaches called it would have been questioned afterwards if we don’t pick up the first down. Had they run against a defense stacking the box and fully expecting a run many on here would be asking why we didn’t attempt a short pass for the first down.

The only play I would ever run on 4th and 1, like the Patriots, is a qb sneak. If you're literally looking over the center at the 1st down marker, it doesn't make any sense to turn around and give the ball to someone 4 yards back much less throw a pass. The other team doesn't know when you're snapping the ball thus you have a big advantage. Get to the line and let the center snap the ball and the running back hit you in the but and push you over if he has to.

You’re right and the stats do back it up.

I was also thinking isn’t that why we have an all Big 12 FB in Dimel to get us those 1 yard gains?

Do you guys think Jdubb66 will ever get credit for starting this revolution? I mean the whole football world has adopted my short yardage philosophy. I'll leave this here to remind you guys I'm a genius. I'm currently working on my next offensive credo, second down and medium. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Please work on second and long and send your findings to Dimel asap.
Thinking Think GIF by Rodney Dangerfield

[Assistant] "Coach Dimel, we have two of the best backs in the conference and a good, not fantastic, but good blocking full back. Good ol "Student Body Right" coach?!"

[Dimel] "We pass on 4 and 1. Take that to Vegas."
