UTEP Responds to CUSA Realignment:

Bleacher Report I found from 2013 making a case for Utep to the Big 12 lol Senter should copy paste the first part for his statement lol

. UTEP
Conference: Conference USA

Enrollment: 21,011 (17,205 undergrad)

El Paso is one of the faster-growing media markets in Big 12 territory, now approaching one million, plus an additional million on the Ciudad Juarez side of the border. UTEP has also won 20 national championships in track or cross country.

However, in revenue sports, UTEP has not been lights-out of late. Their football team went 54-75 since 2000, this playing against inferior competition in the WAC and Conference USA.

Its last bowl victory came in 1967, the year after UTEP won its one and only NCAA men’s basketball championship. UTEP has only been to the Big Dance three times since 2000, losing in the First Round each time.

While UTEP offers possibilities market-wise, it would quickly become the Big 12’s competitive doormat.
El Paso is not growing like the other big cities in Texas are.

El Paso Times finally posts a story on UTEP's statement on conference realignment.

I'd like Bret Bloomquist, Steve Kaplowitz, or anyone in the media who still has any journalistic integrity, to put Senter's feet to the fire for that piss poor scripted statement. Compared to all the statements released by the other current members of C-USA, that was the absolute worst!

Supposedly a response is coming by the end of the week.

Can’t. Their access would be taken away. Ask “RoyBigwood” if he would have gotten an interview from Senter or Stull about this.

UTEP football's three biggest recruiting states, as verified by the number of players on our roster are: Texas, California, and Arizona. Two years from now, UTEP won't have a conference team in any of those 3 states.
How long has it been since we've had a conference-mate in California or Arizona? It doesn't appear to have slowed our recruiting there...

Imagine how much better it could be if we played schools out west.

Uh, okay.

UTEP had a number of impact players from California on our 2000, 2004, and 2005 winning teams. We then stopped playing schools in California in 2005 and we have only had 1 winning season in the 16 years since we stopped playing conference games in California(only 2 winning season in 17 years, if you want to include 2005). Sure there were a lot of factors to our losing, but no longer playing games in our second biggest recruiting state surely didn't help and contributed. Now your looking at not playing any conference games in any of your 3 biggest recruiting states?!?! Yeah, you're right, it's probably nothing to worry about...

California was a recruiting hotbed under Mike Price. Not to worry though, we can still recruit from El Paso schools
