UTEP vs. UAB Thread

We do some weird things, have you ever seen so many receivers running routes and not looking for the football? We had a pass hit a WR the helmet and then on the very next play it hit our TE in the arm.....neither play looked like the receiver had any idea that they were running pass routes?

That’s why I say these receivers aren’t used to a quarterback who will actually hit them on a route.

Hardison made some really good throws, but then he also made just as many poor throws. With the understanding that it was his very first action and against a decent defense, I would give him a solid C+, maybe even upgrade that to a B since he did not turn the ball over. He is not a running threat and he doesn’t look good running either, we should probably remove that QB Iso from playbook with him. But overall, assuming that he will improve and the game will slow down with experience, then I think that we can pleased with having him for the future.

We should have never had too. The wildcat is trash when you know what's coming. So here we come again. Let's see if the playcalling doesn't foul it up.
How do you explain our ineptitude to stop their run game? That's what they wanted to do, said so before the game and we knew that they would rely on the running game because of their backup QB's inexperience and still even knowing all that we couldn't stop them?

I don't care what the other team did, but obviously they executed a game plan. Your question should be for Dimel and the DC. Maybe go back and read defense's comments too.

In my opinion:

The RPO is a complicated offense with multiple formations, blocking schemes and options for the QB. The offense works when its run with intelligence and authority. We seem to be running a bare minimum version that is slow to develop and with tons of mistakes. A capable QB and discipline are what we are missing. Discipline can be taught. Let's see how Hardison does against 2 of the worst team in Div 1.

Our defense is another story. Playing from behind all the time hamstrings the D-line. Our linebackers have been roughed up. Our coaches are adamant about leaving 3 men on the line against a running team. Most all of our recruiting so far is in the defensive backfield. The are some good plays, but no consistency.

A QB and a better defense are what we need right now. The offense will come along if we find the right QB. Its Dimel's only chance to make it to year 4.

UAB talent > UTEP talent
UAB coaching > UTEP coaching
I know Coog, just making a point that it doesn't matter if you know what's coming. Whether it be the wildcat or option offense if you have better Jimmy and Joe's it doesn't matter.

Haha. I know you know. I was just being a smartazz.

The talent gap between the team and the rest of the conference isnt that great. The issue with the program is coaching. We could have much better talent than everyone else in this conference and this staff wouldnt be able to win with them. This honestly may be the worst coaching staff ever assembled in fbs.

Well, UAB DID go winless in those years they shut down the program. Then they brought it back and immediately went to a bowl game. I'm still not exactly sure how that happened.
“The NCAA’s help was important here. The organization told UAB it would freeze the eligibility clock of players in the program while it was dormant. That meant Clark could sell JUCO prospects on spending a year at UAB instead of at schools they didn’t want to be at. In Birmingham, they could get acclimated without losing a year of playing time.”

Transfers. They hit it big with quality transfers and Juco's.

He is a drop back qb. He can drop a nice pass but can't get out of a solid pass rush.
