What's UTEP's best lineup right now?

Close. I’d pull Osborne out and put PT in, just so we’d have a tad more of an inside presence.

Thomas needs to start getting more aggressive in the paint on offense. He tries to finesse too much when there needs to be a balance with creating contact.

I think Frazier is more physical and powerful right now.

Agree, however, PT will never be a power guy. He had a nice little game inside the paint the other night, all finesse with that little left hook he was throwing up. Also hit a couple 3s.

Not saying Thomas is a world beater. We’re comparing PT to Osborne as hypothetical starters. Osborne brings a similar game to what 3 of your other starters bring. PT brings a little more height, better rebounding (although not by much) and an inside game. Not to mention how he alters things in the paint on the defensive end more than Osborne would.

I almost feel silly “debating” this at all because regardless of who starts, this team just isn’t very good.

I agree plus it doesn't matter who starts; Johnson will insert his game breakers at crunch time .. Flagg and Touchet.

There's obviously talent, though. This is all on coaching.

Johnson has made several questionable decisions without a doubt, however, the issue is not just the coaching in my opinion. The lineups available now, without Willms or Smith, are sorely missing in rebounding, and are even worse, in terms of overall team defense. When Paul Thomas is considered our best rebounder, no coaching can overcome that. Magee is an average to poor defender, mostly due his size. Frazier, Osborne, and Wade have physical tools to be better defenders, but simply seem disinterested on that side of the ball. In Frazier's case, in particular, I think this falls on him as a player versus coaching, based on his past. On the offensive side, we have seen these guys make critical, unforced turnovers. The last game was Gilyard's time to turn the ball over 3 times going down the stretch. I understand that inexperience is a factor, but at this point in the year, that really should not happen, and that is on the player. Osborne and Wade are poor free throw shooters, and that is on them. Without any type of true inside presence, it makes things difficult on both ends. That fact alone, would make it difficult on any coach. There is some talent on the team, but not nearly enough to overcome the injuries and inexperience, and our record reflects exactly that. In my opinion, the blame falls on poor coaching and ineffective players. This year has been THAT had.

AMEN!
It's tough for me to watch and tough for me not to watch this team, but I guess I'll try again tonight for a while. I get my exercise gritting my teeth, shaking my head and throwing anything I can grab. Why do I punish myself like this?

That sounds exactly like me.

Best Lineup right now:

C Dimel
C Canales
C Cox
C Ohara
C Rahl

The rest is just awash. Chalk it up as a disastrous year for Bball and be excited for a new coach and season next year. Don't loose sleep over ANOTHER loss for the Miners basketball team. We know they are broken. Root for the Lady Miners. They are playing well, be excited about the resurgence of football excitement. I know nobody was complaining in this post. Just thought it was funny my answer to what the best line up happened to be on the side of football. PICKS UP MINERS !!!

Looks like the Keith Frazier saga is over.
Wish I could remember exactly what I posted when it was first announced he was coming. I think it was something to the effect of, "don't mess with the chemistry of this team; we're good as is" and " he's been a problem everywhere he's been...we don't need that". Maybe his presence had something to do with our miserable year.
