Who Does CUSA Add?

It may not be a great move for those schools going to the AAC. Schools like UTSA and UNT don’t have deep pockets and will have to pay CUSA exit fees, $3 million per school. It looks like the AAC will be protecting the current AAC schools by offering less of the TV revenue to the incoming schools.

We just need to dominate CUSA or our new weaker conference and hope we make the next cut.

Of course it happens the one year UTEP isn’t finishing in last place.

Oh well, thanks to Stull and Kugler, here we are. Though CUSA will probably survive, but it will be really bad and far flung.

Nah, C-USA will finally get the death it created for itself. MWC may try to go after UNT or UTSA before the AAC gets them but it still spells the end of C-USA. Not necessarily a merciful death but the one they created for themselves.

The Sun Bowl owns the stadium for one day a year. UTEP has no say in the matter.

Nah, use eminent domain to void the deal.

As of Right now, UTEP athletics is done. Without Division 1 Football. its over.

CUSA is dead. Sun Belt doesn't want us and neither does MWC. WAC isn't D1 and sucks.

Its nuclear option time. Heather Wilson needs to step up now and all cards are on the table. Tell the Sun Bowl if you're part of the death of UTEP football, we take you down with us.

If they can't get out of the lease legally, close all the Parking Lots for the Sun Bowl. Time to press the panic button is today.

It is too late to go all out. UTEP should have started investing heavily in improving the football program many many years ago.

Even if Marshall and USM throw their crying tantrums and leave to the Sun Belt it's not over yet. Add NMSU and UMASS. Add the two best schools from the WAC (SHSU & Stephen F Austin or Abilene Christian) Jacksonville St and or James Madison and any other respectable FCS program that's ready to make the jump. CUSA will be sitting on a pile of exit fees. All we need is 8 teams. It's hard to kill a conference. At one point the SB was almost dead but they grabbed who they could and look at them now.

You do realize that if the Sun Bowl were to tie in with the MWC, they lose both Power 5 conferences and probably CBS and Kelloggs. The would have to go get a Sun Belt team and basically become the First Responder Bowl. How does this add value for UTEP's bid to get in?

CBS gives the Sun Bowl very little money, 300k. Most Sun Bowl Money is from Car Rental Tax. Money is what drives team selection, not the network.

It really doesn't matter what all these schools are doing. The big conferences are doing they're own. Any school in the CUSA/AAC/MWC /Sun Belt / Indy will all be left behind. There is no difference between those leagues.

Exactly right. CUSA needs to survive if only for the ncaa autobids and the money that generates. The cfp money is also valuable and will increase when the playoffs expand. The conference won't be pretty but it will be a home for UTEP until someone like Boise St or Colorado St leaves the MWC for the Big 12. UTEP will be next man up since the other Texas schools are already in their preferred homes. Might take a few years but constantly having bowl seasons will get UTEP invited one day.

Let’s settle down. This is a real head scratcher by the American. The WAC did this massive expansion experiment years ago and if failed miserably. The MW held strong and comes out ok.

It’s a cool fall far west Texas breeze and the voices in the breeze are blowing UTEP somewhere else.

Fans wanted out of CUSA, well…..that day is here. Be careful what you wish for.

Cooler heads have to prevail.

This is a doomsday scenario for UTEP athletics. I’m betting CUSA folds leaving UTEP an independent just like the Aggies. I blame Bob Stull and Natalicio for declining invitations to the MWC on two occasions. Utter friggin incompetence by UTEPs leadership combined with not giving a crap about your image and not funding your athletic programs has left UTEP starving and half-naked at the orphanage. Sucks being a Miner fan.

WAC failed because not enough money was coming in. AAC won’t have this issue apparently.

What cooler heads? These teams are leaving. They’re getting more money and a better TV deal. CUSA can’t fix that. UTEPs closest conference mate will be LaTech. UTEP will now be flying to WKU, MTSU, FIU, and ODU for all sports, every year. Really great for finances!

Geographically, UTEP is done. We might as well be Hawaii when it comes to travel.
It's not all bad. We'll convince UTA to bring back football as replacement for UNT. We'll add Incarnate Word to replace UTSA and HBU or SHSU for RICE and we're back in business.

We all get our wish. We get to stay in CUSA at FBS level and those that wanted to drop to FCS get to play those schools.

As long as we protect our annual Washington State vs Duke matchup, then I'm fine with sacrificing UTEP Sports forever

The Sun Bowl brings more out of town visitors and spotlight on the city than any conference visitor brings. How many ODU fans made the trip? How many Boise fans are coming next season? Next year’s Boise game will probably be on CBS Sports Network and watched by a very small amount of people. CBSSN doesn’t even get rated by Nielsen.

Makes no difference. ODU drew 11k. The opponents are interchangeable. Once you start playing shit, it doesn’t matter if the shit is green, brown, yellow, pink, or silver.

With College Football Playoff Expansion happening, the future of Bowl Games is as bright as the future of CUSA. UTEP has nothing to offer any new conference.

Please no new football teams in big metro areas of Texas. They will eventually join the mwc or the aac ahead of UTEP just because of a large population/market.

Reading the comments on the MW Board most seem to realize UTEP and Texas St are their only entry into Texas. Let's hope Air Force gets what they wanted.

UTEP needs to blame themselves for this mess not the Sun Bowl. They are two separate entities. UTEP has done nothing over the years to prepare and put themselves in a better position for what is about to happen. It isn’t the Sun Bowls fault and why do they all of a sudden have to come to the rescue. Then on top of that get threatened by UTEP that if you don’t help us now we are bringing you down with us for something they had no control over.

No chance. Adding TSU and UTEP would be seen as “less than”. UTEP only gets you into Texas, by name only. El Paso has very little recruits and is forgotten about by the rest of the state.

No chance of what? Air Force getting what they wanted? It's very obvious they want to play in Texas and almost left MW for that reason. Texas St needs a travel partner unless they want uneven divisions. UTEP could get the votes needed by the Mountain division schools to keep the geographic footprint intact. No one is saying UTEP is a lock because of our recruiting hot beds or our central Texas location.

Time for UTEP to go nuclear…,I think the existence of UTEP Athletics is at stake so the ends has to justify the means.
UTEP needs to go nuclear alright, in the diplomatic department.

-Reopen MW lines of communication. If two wives have too secretly have talks and dinner at the slopes of Angel Fire, then so be it. Mary Magdalene didn't sit on her ass and let her BFF get crucified all for nothing despite the fact a couple old farts who thought they were calling all the shots thought they were in charge. I am not trying to be flippant, I am deadly serious.
-Senter needs to know how much dough he has for leverage, but our suitors do not need to know exactly and necessarily. None of this "Let me call Heather and get back with you". Time is of the essence. Defense and prosecution lay your guilty ass on the line when sentencing comes around, you need to know what you have in your holster, powder dry and ready.
-This is why Corona, NoNuts, Killer, kickball, myself or anyone else is NOT on any UTEP fan board or wants our input for UTEP: We'd undersell a gently used 2018 Bugatti listed for $1.9 Mil for $10,500 to the Colonial Conference behind the office of a lower Dyer car lot. El Paso and every single square inch of UTEP land, facilities, bank accounts, and service are on the line. Market value is market value but you want the best price per square foot.

I will bet you $250 that UTEP is not added to the MWC in the next year.
