So two FCS home games? Senter will stop at nothing to carry Dimel to the end of his contract.
As long as there is no game before the Texas game its ok in my opinion. No need to destroy confidence more. Winning these games is not going to trick us into beleiving UTEP FB/Dimel have turned the corner, but losing will say a lot. I think it actually puts more pressure on coach to win. No excuses
Florida State had an opening this week and BYU was the last minute replacement. At least our finances are in good shape.

Your previous post was very critical of Senter for this apparent choice of scheduling but now you admire him for it? Can't say that I blame you for that, given the state of our fb program but that was a quick change of heart.
Personally I think it’s a risky move that can blow up in his face. If the season is cut short then buying two wins will end up being a complete waste of money. If they beat us it will be a waste of money. I’m not a stubborn individual that can’t see the good intentions Senter has in the way he’s handling this situation. He stands behind his coach and puts him in a position to succeed.

As you know I've been extremely critical of Senter. I called for his firing the day he hired Dimel. However, if this is what it took to get six home games I'm on board. It shows we're in a good place financially. It was important to get six home games. Now if Dimel loses them there is no way he can escape the axe.

If you understood college football, politics and economics you would understand why UTSA is the bigger rival.
I still think he has to beat 3 FBS teams this year. Throw in the two FCS games and a 5-6 record would show promise.
NMSU football is doing the same as Ohio St, UCLA, UConn, Boise St, San Diego St, UNM, and many others.
I understand all those things. If you understood, you would know that rivalries aren’t propped up by academics and economics of two lower rung, nobody state schools. This isn’t 1935.
COVID has changed everything. I see Dimel scraping by if he beats 2 FCS teams. You’re always talking about his contract. Not sure how UTEP will manage to pay him off and hire someone else in this uncertain climate.
If Dimel wins five games then he’s pretty much guaranteed to finish his contract. If he wins five I’ll give him due credit.
Winning 5 games this year, will be great progress. I just don’t see Senter letting him go if he beats SFA and ACU, plus a shortened season.
If it were a normal year, he would have had to beat NMSU and a CUSA team or 2. Doesn’t mean I would be okay with that, but I think he would have been back with a 3-9 record.
Dimel can go winless this year and his job is still safe. I can hear the bs in my head now from Senter about doing a commendable job during this period of quarantine and COVID.

With UTEP's luck, we actually will scrape together a bowl eligible .500 record with these two FCS wins, and then a third COVID-19 wave will hit and all the bowls will be canceled.
