To many political factions in the Big XII and the Gov. of Texas is throwing his hat in the ring. The BXII wants institutions who are very strong academically and bring an array of possibilities to the conference like UTAH and Colorado offered the PAC 12. UTAH has poured tons in sports and academics and do a ton in health research. Look at two polar opposites who were candidates for the BXII, Rice and Memphis. Rice academically speaking was a no brainer but the BXII said they don't want to have to "prop up" the major revenue programs, which Rice needs. Memphis brought FedEx sponsorship, money, a southeastern regional stake owned by the SEC but unlike Rice, not known as an academic school and put all their money in major revenue sports the last twenty plus years rather than academics and the owner of FedEx had to commit to give more to academics to make Memphis more attractive to the BXII. Kind of embarrassing, don't you think? The BXII said hell no to both schools. BYU needs to get over themselves. I think it's obvious the presidents of the BXII schools were whispering to themselves "if the PAC 12 didn't want them, why would we want them?"
