El Paso businesses that have expanded to other cities??

According to Wiki, “Entrepreneur Fred Hervey purchased three Kay's Food Stores in El Paso, Texas, in 1951.[17]Hervey renamed the stores as "Circle K Food Stores, Inc." rather than "Kay." He grew the Circle K chain into neighboring New Mexico and Arizona, which has been the company's home base since 1957. (Hervey would go on to serve two terms as mayor of El Paso.) By 1975, there were 1,000 Circle K stores across the U.S.“.
Thanks I couldn’t remember his name and didn’t have the time to google.

They pay taxes and create jobs.

That's just greedy if that's all they do for El Paso.

I really want to know their Net Worth. McDonald's is worth like in the Billions and given a lot back. Chicos I would say is worth maybe 50 million I'm guessing or maybe even more. If they ate worth that much and haven't given back to the community. Would you consider that greedy??

Nobody should ever be forced to donate money. It is a choice to donate money. You are not greedy if you choose not to donate money.

Chico's is nowhere close to being worth $50 million.

How much do you make per year and how much do you donate per year?

$50,000,000 are you insane? Their buildings aren’t even worth $1,000,000 put together lol. The Chico’s name isn’t worth $49,000,000! Get a clue man!

Making millions and not sharing is greedy. Chico Tacos is greedy. Who knows if Chicos allowed to Franchise they could have been a top fast food chain. McDonald's didnt have to expand but look at them now. Does Chico's even help their employees go to school??? Do they give scholarships??
Well do they? Do you know the answers? Its their business and their perogative. Its all in perspective.

Why do you want to franchise? So you can try to make more money? If you want more money then go get it. As long as its legal then its nobody's business otherwise. More power to you.

When I was in Alaska years back, I saw an El Paso Natural Gas office. Not sure if that technically counts, but I thought it was pretty cool.

How much you think its worth??

But let's say they are worth $50 million . If they have Never given back to El Paso. You dont think that's greedy??
I agree nobody should be forced to have to donate. But come on that looks bad on Chicos. Hey if they do give back and keep it in the downlow that's great.

And have I donated? I have given money to homeless people and to the offering basket. I've given big tips to to waitresses and restaurants. If I was a millionaire I would give back but I'm not.

I'm just asking why hasn't Chicos expanded. I want EL Paso to grow and expand. And I dont know what Chicos Tacos does. That would be a good topic for one of the news stations to find out??? Hmmm

Their company is worth no more than $1 million.

No, I don't think they're greedy if they choose not to donate.

Tipping isn't a donation. What is your example of a "big tip"?

You didn't answer the question. How much do you make per year and how much do you donate per year?

They haven't expanded because they don't need more money and happy with the business that they have.

I think Chico’s with their buildings is maybe worth $1-2 million to the right person.

If they were worth 50 and they didn’t give back, sure that’s greedy. However, if you feel that way, you’re not required to eat there or buy their food. As a consumer, you can choose which companies you want to pay money to. The only exceptions are usually utility companies.

They don’t make their finances public, but I don’t think they are doing as well as in the previous decade. They closed two locations ( sold the land, I’m sure for a pretty penny) and their restaurants are not as busy.
They probably just don’t advertise their charity. I knew a business owner who would give scholarships out every year, but very few people knew about it. When I asked why he didn’t make it public said he did it to help people not for accolades.

Wing Daddy's Sauce house owners and their other franchises are from EP. They are from Cathedral. They give scholarships.

The argument you’re making Fili is laughable. You just pulled some totally arbitrary number out of your ass as an estimate of their net worth. Do you know how many 3.00 tacos they’d have to sell to hit that number? Take away taxes, pay and expenses there’s a reason every one of those restaurants look like a freaking horror show, and no it’s not to add to the ambience. You might as well said they’re billionaires and they should join in a joint venture with Forster to bring an NFL team to El Paso.

But here’s the problem with everyone nowadays, they expect these grandiose public statements from everyone: athletes, actors, any Tom, Dick, Harry. Worry about you, not whether or not some dumb restaurant went around photographing themselves handing out huge Publisher’s Clearing House style checks to underprivileged families so they look good in the court of public opinion. They always let those deaf people sell their pencils and candies and stuff, so you can’t say they don’t help.

Tipping is a donation. Just like donating Tipping is not required. It's a act of kindness. I ve tipped I think like $50.

I'm not gonna say how much I make. But I'm no millionaire. How much do you make?? Have you donated??

I consider going to the casino donating. I've played like $100 at a casino once.

No, tipping isn't a donation. Can you claim it on your taxes?

How much was your bill on the $50 tip?

I make around $35k a year. I donate around $500 a year.

LMAO!!!!! Going to the casino and losing money is not donating money.

Don’t forgive tipping strippers is technically considered tipping as well because you are helping pay their college education as well. The charity of it all just warms the heart.

So if I go to Lets say Chillis and my meal was $20. I give the waiter or waitress a $1000 tip. That's not a donation?? Haven't you heard of those stories people getting big tips?? A tip like that i would consider a donation .

$500 dollars a year?? That's like $42 a month. Oh and dont forget your $10 wal mart gift card. Lol

No, that's not a donation. It's still a tip. A donation is a gift for charity, humanitarian aid, or to benefit a cause.

And your point is that I donate $500 a year? How much do you donate per year?

It's funny you make fun of other people who donate when you probably donate $0 a year.

They did close two locations, BUT they also opened a new one.

If they really want to rake in the dough, real low-hanging fruit, they would just open a west side location. Somewhere on Mesa. The Coronado and Franklin kids would be all over it, and it would be closer to UTEP. I really don't understand why they don't want that west side money.

Like I know El Taco tote is from El Paso or Juarez and I've seen it in Phoenix and San Antonio.

Everybody knows about Tony Lamas but I dont know if they have stores in other cities. I wish Chicos Tacos would stop being greedy and expand and allow for Franchising.

El Taco tote is only one I know about.

Any others???

El Tacotote is actually from Juarez, it started there in the 80's by the Heras familty. The first location was at Centro Comercial Alameda right front of El Teresiano School, I believe the second one is at Av de la Americas and Hermanos Escobar and it still there.

Fil a news report. It’s not a mystery. The Chico’s owners are content.

Expanding would mean investing (spending money), incorporating (losing control of the family business), or franchising (entering into complicated business relations with strangers) and they don’t want to do that.

By the way. I very much doubt the Chico’s owners are even millionaires.

I knew a guy who owned 2 restaurants in El Paso. Not rich. Definitely comfortable, not rich.

I had a high school teacher who owned a restaurant that was in business for a long time. So if they were rolling in the bucks, I don’t think she would bother teaching for years and years. It’s just a stigma, that if you own a real business, you’re automatically loaded.

Tipping large amounts and/or dropping money at Casinos are not donations. They are not tax deductible nor are they for a definitive good cause. Its just being nice or having fun.

I wonder what the IRS would think if I deduct the $1000 a year I spend on lottery tickets as a donation to the Foundation School Fund.
Please tell me you're not one of those folks who hold up the convenience store lines taking 20 minutes to pick lottery scratch off's and tickets?! :D;)

I think Don Carbon has a chance to go big. Not sure if it started here.
