Finally cleaned out dvr of utep BBALL Season. After watching Xavier game and Arizona game, biggest disappointment in this year for me, was how good teams gotta better and it seems Utep regressed and didn't improve, from earlier in the year. The ability was definitely there, but not developed. Whether that was a continuity or coaching issue, I guess we won't really know, oh well seasons over!

Gotta agree with your point about not progressing as a team. I'd say the December Miners were better than the March Miners. Just not much in terms of team development. UAB was a really good example of a team getting better as the season went on. That's how it should be. Oh well.

Didn't improve in general? Or was there a specific player that regressed?
One thing that never improved was the Free Throw Shooting - never consistent.
Which game do you think was CTF's worst coached game(s) and his best game?

Worst game was S. Miss for whole coaching staff, for Tim Floyd I'd say home game against La Tech, there should've been time outs and adjustments, that seemed to never come. Best game probably Xavier or even Rice game the last game of the season, adjustments and last minute coaching, got utep out of that game against a much improved hot Rice team

my honest opinion.... i mean do you guys totally disagree??

the reason i think utep looked good and then looked bad at times were due to two main things

1. we never had a real pg on the team that could run the team, get people open and create shots for himself... to me not much floyd could have done except hand the reigns of the team to omega harris, and he was not ready in my opinion... he was too loose with the ball... i think he did learn a lot this year and will be a lot better next year

2. the second thing that caused the miners to be what they were was, we did not have enough pure shooters on the team.... the best shooter we had was morris by far and the rest of the team could go 7-15 one game and then 1-18 the others... its no surprise the games we lost were the ones we could not hit the broad side of a barn.... that is also another reason i think next years team will be better..... again just going on what i have heard... i think we will have a much better shooting team with mcswiggan, touchet, flaggert, morris, harris should improve, paul thomas looks to have a good shot and lee moore looks ok.... sooooooo

to me those were the reasons we were up and down and not so much the coaching... i think we really hit the limits of our potential as a team last year.... not having a guy who can go and get you a basket when you need is a big thing to be missing as well as a floor general.... cooper did what he could, but he could never get by his man, he was either on or off and he never seemed to be a leader....

just my two cents... to me its clear as day.... i mean if you replaced cooper and say stallworth with fili rivera and sr. chris craig and we would go dancing... and all that is, is a floor general in fili and a good shooter in craig...

Ok Purple, I fully agree with your points about lack of a solid pg, and aside from Morris, lack of consistent perimeter shooters. You mention that there wasn't much CTF could do about that. Sounding like a broken record, this is where you and I see things differently. I have to point out, and it is as clear as day for me as you say it is for you, that CTF recruited these guys who can't hit the ocean from the side of a ship, on a consistent basis. The burden of that absolutely falls on CTF. Either he has really missed on these recruits, or he has not developed them. I thinks it's a bit of both, personally. In his four years of recruiting his own guys, he has brought in one good pg, a guy with previous baggage and character flaws that had previously been exposed. I do give TF credit for nabbing Morris, and Connor Tucker for a year, as guys who can light it up from the outside. Aside from those guys, who has TF brought in that can shoot the damn ball? Who has he recruited that has a visible leadership quality, that will put he team on his back night in and night out? Which of his teams demonstrated obvious development from season's beginning to season's end?

I know you're sincere in your support of Floyd. I was right there with you for 4 years, and it wasn't until a little more than half way thru this season that my belief solidified itself, that none of CTF's Miner teams significantly improve....ever...during the course of a season that is, nor do I think any of his teams in the future will. It is always one issue or another preventing his teams from getting over the hump. Part of me admires your patience and the vision you have that you HOPE manifests in the near future. Just because I don't share that vision doesn't diminish my fandom one bit. I have followed the Miners through thick and thin for over 3 decades. I love this team, and bleed orange with the most ardent of UTEP bb fans. With that said, aside from he part of me already mentioned, a larger part of me thinks that a few years from now, the tides will have slowly turned, and many people who now support Floyd, will be where myself and a few others are at this current time. There is nothing that I've seen in 5 years, aside from that good 8 game stretch following GambleGate, that leads me to believe otherwise.

So to answer your original question, I don't totally disagree with you.

I pretty much did the same thing as nattybry. The biggest problem was the inconsistency in the play throughout the year. One could see improvement in the play of some, especially Harris and Morris, but even their play was inconsistent, and not enough to overcome the cracks of the team. I expect a season to have bumps in the road, especially with so many newcomers, but with the experience we had with the three seniors, it should have been enough to overcome those dips in play. None of the seniors took on any kind of leadership role at all. That hurt big. I guess my biggest disappointment lay in the lack of progress and improvement in the team overall. With the experience of this coaching staff, that should not have occurred. I thought our best play happened pre-conference, weird.
