I still think this team has a chance to be good this year.... but this might have cost us a game or two

Maybe Jones father is having his son do a Morman mission? As a Morman he is required to obey his calling to do mission work.

Sorry, but missions are completely voluntary. I, for example, never served one. If he was going on a mission he would have left during the summer, not two months into the school year, and would have let the staff know before hand. If everything happened the way Floyd said it did, this was a bush league move by Jones and his dad. I would love to hear something from Jones about this situation.

Thanks for clearing that up. It was just the only reasonable excuse I could c9me up with. It’s too bad a young man with his potential is so influenced by a parent misguiding him...

Back in May, Floyd spoke to the media and confidently said that we would get to 13 scholarships before the season started(at that time we had more players than 13).........I guess he was wrong as we will not be at 13. It seems like every April we are over scholarship players, yet then every November we are short scholarship players.

Floyd apparently is a “good” recruiter, but why can he not recruit his own players after they are here? If you take the Roderick Williams situtation, Floyd mentioned that they had no contact with him after he left. Why not get on the phone or plane and go recruit your player back? I understand that the hard line approach and not “babying” a player when he wants to quit, is not the worst thing in the world. But I also understand that not all 18 year old kids are the same and some might need more guidance and leadership when they are thinking of quitting. Why not try to be more of a Father figure and go recruit your player(s) back when they are waivering, instead of just saying they left unexpectedly and we have had no contact with them.

We are being told a story that says Kelvin’s Dad has suddenly and unexpectedly told him to leave and this comes as a complete shock and a “gut punch” to our Coaches and Players. Well if this has just dramatically and unexpectedly happened, as we are being told, then why doesn’t Floyd get Kelvin and his Dad on the phone and resolve the issues? Why not work together to understand what the concerns are and work together to the solve them? How could the situation have deteriorated so badly and so quickly that having a communication and a positive resolution is not a possiblity? It just doesn’t seem to make sense.

That is a spot on question Miner fans need to hear and answered. Obviously CTF and his staff failed with open and direct communication with parents.

Once the "child" is 18 he/she is a legal adult. The coach can actually get himself in trouble legally for discussing personal issues with a parent

My child is 18 and attending college in Philly. The college better damn well keep my wife and I in the loop for anything important and as parents, we share that responsibility to the school in certain aspects. It's a two way street.

My child is 25. When he asked us to speak to his professor back when he was in college I already knew the answer and it was given to him when he ran it by his professor: "you're in college now. You're an adult and need to handle this yourself"

That's not illegal.

You can't disclose medical information, but Floyd wouldn't get in trouble if he called any parent to talk to them if he felt that somebody was having a hard time.

That's a nice sentiment, but as a coach myself I know if I disclose a personal issue to a parent without the consent of the adult "child" I've just violated a rule that can land me in serious trouble

You're a college basketball coach? You could get in legal trouble if you call a parent advising them that you feel their kid is having trouble? Have any proof of this? I have never heard this before.

Let's say for instance the parent went to a game and talked with the coach. The coach can't tell the parent anything if they feel something is wrong?

Can a high school coach get in legal trouble if the athlete is 18?
