Next UTEP coach is...

It's going to be Tang or Golding. Jans is just to show nmsu who runs this region. Sadler probably had a nice presentation and sold senter on some ready to retire here bs. I don't know from where or wtf the other coach is doing in the final round of interviews.

If it’s doc Sadler I give up! .... he’s done nothing but be mediocre .... why ? Why in the hell would you want that?
If Nebraska doesn't save us Doc would have been the coach at UTEP for at least five more seasons. He would have run the program into the ground. He inherited a great team from Billy but did nothing to build on it. When he level the talent level was severely diminished and the cupboard was bare. If he doesn't get the Nebraska job he fails miserably at UTEP and never coaches again. This is a head scratching dumb only something Senter would do candidate. The guy was 32-57 in cusa with USM. That's after he went 34-64 in the Big ten at Nebraska. This is another person like Dimel who only one AD in America would consider hiring and unfortunately he's our AD.

i hope your right it better not be doc Sadler... the guy is actually a good coach but can’t recruit worth a damn... I guess If he brought an assistant who could maybe? With his style though I think we would see a lot of transfers year in and out

I like Golding from what he was able to do at ACU. I like Tang because I think he will be just as good if not better. There's probably a good possibility Drew rewards his loyalty with a nice 4 game h&a series with Baylor. Plus I also think Tang will be much more selective when moving up. I could see him passing on a few jobs until the right one opens up.

As a previous fan posted, why was Sadler even in the top 5? This is nothing personal, it's all professional and Sadler IS NOT mid major or above HC material to win any conference. Good man, with southern comfort appeal and he did clean up USM but my goodness Senter? WTF are you thinking?

I don’t get everyone’s reluctance on tang ?
The dude spent 2 decades as an assistant at Baylor. Prior to that he was a coach at a Pre-K to 12 school. We are hiring a coach based on 1 season bc Baylor won the title? We have the perfect candidate in Golding right in our face and Senter is high on Baylor’s title run. Jans would also be a better option. I can’t believe we are going to blow this again.

That’d be cool.

Do you know how bad baylor was prior to Drew and Tang. Them two turned baylor from bottom dweller to national champions. Its not just one season they've a had nice run together the last 15 years. I think it's admirable the dedication and loyalty they've shown. If Tang comes here and becomes the next Bear I see nothing wrong with that.

Doing quick lookup and this is a legit concern? Tang was a finalist at NMSU a few years ago and not picked. He was on the short list for OU, but OU didn't pick him. He wants a HC job but is he right guy for UTEP when NMSU nor OU didn't think so? I agree, Jans would be a better fit at UTEP.

Corona, Sister Carmela from Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow would have turned Baylor around, after each mess they created.

Yes, I know they're Baptist.

I still feel very strongly about Joe Golding. The release of the final list of candidates strengthens that, yet again. Now is not even close to being the time to take a shot on (albeit I’m certain very good coaches) men who haven’t won a single game, yet alone a conference championship, made it to the NCAA tournament or won against a far superior opponent in the tournament. We literally have a chance to hire one of the best and brightest young minds in college basketball. That’s not my opinion, that’s pretty much out there in all the news. Now is not the time to gamble. You make the Joe Golding hire and let him get to work.

Heading to a Masters watch party with some guys who are pretty heavy hitters here in El Paso. I know for certain one of them is a pretty big UTEP guy (party is actually at his house.) Excited to hear what they think.

If you eliminate the 20-21 season from his resume would you all even consider this guy?

Joe Golding has won like seventy five games (could be a few more or few less but saw that posted) the past three years, made the NCAA Tournament twice, won his conference twice and pretty sure it would’ve been three to all of those if not for COVID cancellation. The only possible resume that we are interviewing that can come close to that, is Jans. The one knock on Golding is his overall record. However, someone earlier posted about what he’s done at ACU to transition to Division 1. They convinced me to focus on the pst five years and not overall record.

He's high on everyone's list cuz he beat Texas but had he not won that game his resume isn't much better than anyone else being considered.
Yeah, I agree. Personally, I’m looking at more than his resume, though. I honestly think he’s what we need. I think he can pull us out of the gutter. I’m all in on him. If it’s Tang, I can live with that.

Doc is the prototypical Senter type hire. Pretty much the basketball equivalent of Dimel 2.0. Also, Doc was also an AD, so I am sure Senter was all impressed with that.

I would hope that our Mr Senter is bright enough to recognize that his own job is on the line with this decision and he'd better not screw things up again with a stupid hire. He has some genuine viable candidates. Sadler (great guy) or Patrick are not the answer. Godling, Tang and maybe Jans are my picks.
I'm praying Senter doesn't mess this up.

I'm fine with not hiring ex-UTEP coaches, but if we hire one then Doc would not even be on my list. I really don't understand why he is even being interviewed. If he is hired then I might just give up on UTEP sports for a long while. Obviously Wilson is ok with Senter so there is that...

Sadler is literally at the bottom of the list. He's not going to be hired and neither is the Arkansas coach.

Every one was up in arms shit talking Senter cuz some unverified source said Menzies name. Let's focus on the first three names. That's who will be our next coach.

I kind of like all 3 of them but prefer Tang. Out of those 3 I feel He's the smartest one. Jans will bolt at the first chance he gets. Same could be said for Golding. While I don't mind instant success and a new coaching search imo the only way to have real long-term success is with a coach that doesn't have a foot out the door. I think Tang fits the description. He could stick around for a few years and make a few NCAA runs.

I just hope he doesn’t give UTEP a final “ F U” as he exits stage left.

I have asked this before. Has Wilson ever made any public statement about the "state of affairs " at the school over which she presides? Do we know if she even cares?
