OT : ALL THINGS SOCCER (-) WC and EURO CUP 😜

Hate speech is free speech. I sure as hell don’t agree or condone any actions or thoughts from racist/sexist factions but I do defend their right to gather and speak because I don’t believe in censorship. Antifa violently protesting and trying to block any right wing supporter speaking at a college are doing exactly what their name is against. They are fascists trying to block and censor someone because they don’t agree with them.

What's "antifa"? Do you mean the anti-fascist movement that fought Hitler in WWII? Our heroes that stormed the beaches at Normandy? Those anti-fascists? Or are you referring to the bullshit republican propaganda?

From where I sit, the only ones trying to block and censor thought are those same republicans who are out there attacking those of us who oppose fascism. Are these, perhaps, the people to whom you are referring?

By the way, I served proudly for over 10 years in defense of our Constitution and all amendments to it including 1A which provides for our right to free speech. Protest peacefully. No problem here. After all, I am "antifa".

Thanks for your service. This is not directed at you or anybody else here. Just my thought.

Fascism doesn't work. Neither does Socialism. Neither is good nor sustainable for many reasons. History has proven that.

The minority of people are on the ends of the bell curve (seemingly believing strongly in one side or the other), while the majority sit back and try to reason and work together. It's unfortunate the loudest arguments and battles always seem to be led by the minority beleievers labelling each other and stereotyping everybody that doesn't agree with them? The rest are just caught in the middle shaking their heads.

I don’t agree with a lot of what Rapinoe and a lot of outspoken people say, but the US Soccer team should have the men’s deal. There’s no reason for them not to. They’re more successful, they should be paid the same rate as the men. There’s nothing political about that.

Well then they should have taken that same deal WHEN THEY WERE OFFERED IT! How hard is that?

The men took their pay for play deal because they get their regular benefits (insurance, etc) from MLS. Can’t pay the women equally when NO ONE goes to NWSL games. Should Candace Parker or Diana Taurasi be paid the same as LeBitch even though the WNBA has NEVER made a profit? GTFO!

I was in Rapinoe's corner until she took the Victoria's Secret money. Equal rights, equal pay, I'm with you. Speak out against sexual discrimination and take money from a company that profits from objectifying women, can't take you seriously. She has become a very successful brand and more power to her, but she should not be anyone's moral compass.

NWSL and WNBA have nothing to do with anything. From Forbes article

“The USMNT is paid under a pay-to-play structure wherein the USSF pays players bonuses for each game played. These bonuses vary based on factors such as whether the match is a friendly, a tournament match or World Cup match, but if a player is not called up to compete on the team then he does not receive a bonus for that game.

The women’s team, on the other hand, has a system in which most players sign contracts with the USSF that pay them base salaries and offer certain benefits, such as maternity leave, while also earning monetary bonuses for playing in actual games. However, the USWNT’s game bonuses are, across the board, much smaller than the USMNT’s. It is the bonus structure that ultimately pays these women far less than men for equal work.”

Should WNBA players get paid the same per game as the NBA players?

Equal pay for equal work.

Equal pay for equal work.
No, and it’s not the same thing. No WNBA player really believes they deserve $30 million a year like LeBron. Those are two professional leagues. The US women’s team is not trying to be paid as much as Messi and Ronaldo. They’re asking for the same pay rate as the men’s team. The USSF pays both of them, but differently. The same employer and the men’s team is a lot less successful than the women.

It’s like if UTEP paid Kevin Baker more than Joe Golding. The men’s team makes more money and is historically more successful than the women’s program. Or if a male WalMart manager made more money at a bottom performing store, while a female at a top performing store, made less. Assuming their experience and whatnot was the same.

What do you mean why? USSF and pro-soccer are different. Do you honestly think that their pro-contracts are the same between MLS and the NSWL? Nope. This is about the USSF (national games), has nothing to do with MLS. The chicks have brought in more money per match than the men

There's really alot more to that, its not that black and white. Theyve only brought in more money once when the men failed to Qualify and the Women went onto win the World Cup.

And Ticket revenue is only part of the equation. FIFA allocates 400 million to the men's World Cup to 30 million for the women. Then you have TV rights, marketing deals, jersey sales, etc that make up the rest of the revenue.

Furthermore, US soccer pays the Women a base Salary. So they have a guaranteed 6 figure income from US Soccer whereas the men get paid for call ups and match bonuses.

If both teams played the exact same amount of games, the pay is equal. But a male that played in Every game will make much more than the female. But remember, out of 30 or so National Team Games, that male may only get called up a few times.

The Female team is usually the same players who are getting their match bonuses plus a base salary.

Its a complex situation. If the women want the same CBA as the men, they would make alot less than they do now because the player pool would be so much larger and they would lose their base pay and get chosen less.

In other words, US Soccer gives the women job security

This is the CBA they have now, not back when the women started complaining. From what I remember, when they started complaining they were paid the same way as the men, except their bonuses were smaller. The usmnt rides the coat tail of the rest of the world when it comes to revenue for the World Cup and the rest of the world rides the coat tail of the uswnt when it comes to World Cup revenue. FIFA pays USSF and USSF then pays the players, why shouldn't the women get some of that coat tail that the men are hanging onto?

This has nothing to do with MLS or NSWL is my point (witch (oops which) is what someone stated it was). Those players get paid their contracts by their own team. The female players weren't arguing that. What they were arguing was the pay for the national teams.

Whatever CBA they have now is what they agreed to back then, that isn't the argument. The argument is why they got the new CBA

What up with this Ricardo Pepi??

The guy is on Fire in MLS and age 18. Made the All Star Game. Has the US and Mexico fighting for his services. He would have attended San Eli High School but committed to a soccer career at 13 and was schooled through online.

But he could be the next big El Paso Thing.

Yeah I saw that he is getting a look from the USMNT.

He is not associated with El Paso though. He didn’t attend high school here, so there is no community attachment. Unless you lived in San Eli or follow soccer, most El Pasoans have never heard of him. Does he even “rep” El Paso like Aaron Jones and Khalid do?

ummmmm no. He played club in El Paso. Maybe you don't know of him, but I doubt you know much about the local soccer scene. You can't be negative all the time, especially in a sport you don't even know

You seem to think the US revolves around soccer. Pepi and Marinho or whatever, could walk around Cielo Vista Mall this weekend largely unnoticed. They are not as famous as Aaron Jones or Khalid. Not even close. To think that some kid who played soccer here when he was 12 is some famous person, is complete nonsense.

Yes, I do not know the names of 12 year old boys playing club soccer here. Good to know you’re watching 12 year old boys and know their names. Congrats???

My mistake, I misspoke. What I was getting at was the men took their CBA because they are in affect taken care of by their club team—MLS or euro etc. The women structured their deal more towards job security with base salaries, maternity leave, insurance, etc. cause they ain’t bringing in the money at their clubs NWSl or otherwise.

Mens team took a chance on themselves, if they hit it big, they hit big and get paid but get nothing if they don’t win or qualify.
Women choose the safe route…job security. If they had the men’s structure now they wouldn’t have gotten anything for laying an egg at the Olympics.

You just want to argue to argue. I know these players because of their trainers. I haven't been to a youth game since my son decided on Ju-Juitsu. IDGAF, I love the game. I ran into Marinho at a McDonalds, several years after he coached the patriots, he was being asked for autographs by not only employees and customers. He passed away about 6 years ago, so I'm pretty sure that some folks would turn an eye if they saw him. You have no clue what you're talking about, move along

This dude don't know what he is talking about..... PIVOT, PIVOT, PIVOT. You can't be changing your stance when you're proven wrong. Anyways, the argument was how did they get to this CBA. They got to this CBA because they make more revenue than the USMNT when it comes to WC

Nope. Pepi is no star (yet) and doesn’t rep 915. He is unknown in El Paso. Only fans of MLS and old men who keep up with young boys like yourself know who he is.

Pepi is 18 and selected to the MLS All Star Game. Kinda of a star
Only to the soccer world and even then, it’s only in the MLS world. He has less than 13,000 Instagram followers. Katia Gallegos has 18,000 and she plays women’s basketball at UTEP.

Don’t get accomplishments and celebrity mixed up. Maybe one day he will become famous, but he’s definitely not right now.

No one wants to see Pepi in a Bikini. Lol

Pepi is still young. Once he makes the inevitable move to Europe and debuts with the National Team he has the potential to become one of the best known athletes El Paso has produced.
Not arguing that. Randaddy seems to think Pepi has the name recognition of Freddy Adu. Pepi doesn’t even have the local celebrity as Danny Cashout.

Man, you don't even know what you talking about when it comes to soccer. When I said that Phoenix was a better soccer town than Austin, you automatically assumed I was making that comment because of USL... Phoenix supports soccer, they have one of the largest youth tournaments in the US in Tempe, so does the pikes peak tournament and the snickers cup in Dallas. You say pepi is not a star yet, but the dude is 18 and is on the MLS all star team. He's the youngest player in MLS history to score a hat trick. Keep talking your nonsense

Why doesn't Dallas support their team then? They have one of the biggest youth tournaments and the youngest MLS super star. Something doesn't seem to be adding up.

Ummm... they will probably end with higher attendance than Austin at the end of the year and this is Austin's first year. Austin is only averaging 14k in attendance, Dallas is at 13k. For the USMNT game, there was probably only 18k in attendance. Weren't you the one who said that you couldn't sell a ticket to the game for $60?

I'm not sure where you found your numbers but Austin is second in attendance behind Atlanta.

Yeah big shocker USMNT had a hard time selling tickets.

You right, I got them off the same site, but it had all matches total not the home. My bad. I'm surprised the sounders have dropped so much. I still stand with Phoenix or San Diego should have been the next MLS team. Austin never really brought anything to the table when it came to soccer, just my experience growing up playing soccer

The number are a bit off cuz of covid. Here are the numbers since everyone returned to full capacity.

Austin is here now and is bringing to the league one of the best SG's in the world. This past weekend we took 8 busses to Frisco and sold over 900 away tickets. The support is only going to increase once the results on the field matches the passion in the stands.

Lol. He could walk into the mall anywhere in America and barely be recognized by 1 MLS fanatic. He is no STAR. He is a promising player, but no STAR. He has a small social media following and plays for a team that nobody even cares about in their home city.

I’m talking nonsense, but you thought FC Dallas was out drawing an expansion team in a brand new stadium.

Stick to knowing all the 12 year olds that play soccer here.

How do you increase support when they’re already selling out?
