Do you think Kugler stays with Leftwich or looks for a JC or D1 Transfer this off season? I'd like to see that happen, Leftwich does what he can, but I don't think is a D1 starter. I think we'll also be looking for a capable RB to compliment Jones and relieve some of the load and not lose so much if he gets re injured.

I think we do need a qb for depth. I think Leftwich is a capable qb that can win games. He's on pace to put up better numbers than Showers had last year while only playing eight games. Its hard to believe but Lefty is the most productive qb we've had since Vittatoe. Im glad he will be around for two more years because he's proven to be a steady smart qb who can win games.

Ive always thought Kavika has the highest ceiling of all the qbs. In a perfect world Kugler wants a dual threat qb under center. Im really looking forward to the spring to see Kavika's growth and development in the offense. It will be interesting to see if he can supplant Ledtwich. He will have to learn to make reads and checks and progressions. What Lefty has going for him is that his football iq is very high, and he doesnt make mistakes. He's not gong to wow you with his arm but he's consistent and wont lose you games. I hope Kavika continues to progress because his playmaking ability could make the offense dynamic.

As for running back we need two. Jones roll needs to be completey revamped next year. I would split him out alot and use him on third downs in the back field. What we know is that Jones is not a feaure back. He's not durable. He's missed games in all three seasons at UTEP, chances are very high he will miss games next year. It was a bad idea to build the offense around him this year, it would be pure lunacy to make the same mistake next year. I think we need at least one jc running back.

The Kugler family is in love with papa and son Leftwich. Mack isn't going anywhere. I heard a rumor that Kugler's son will be playing here after graduating.

I agree with Minerforlife. If Kugler plans to use Jones every other offensive down next year then he is going to ruin the kid. Play action, slot, decoy, etc. should be his role. He should be at about 15 carries a game. If stubborn Kug decides that Aaron is going to take a beating and then just tough it out then the kid and the team are doomed. I've said this before, if I am Aaron's father, I would be having a long talk with Kugler and Higgins this off season to set the record straight as to expectations.

On the surface, UTEP might look like an attractive destination for a legit JC QB with 2+ years of eligibility. Below the surface, however, I'd be looking for some SERIOUS commitments before I agreed to play for this program...

I don't think UTEP would be an attractive detonation for an elite JC QB transfer with the type of offense we run. Next year I see us running all the time to Jones like we have in the past

Attractive in the sense that there currently are zero quality QBs on UTEP's roster. Just aren't. My reference regarding "serious commitments" concerned assurances of an honest shot at PT (e.g. HC's long-standing and well-known ties with the Leftowich family) and concerns about an offensive philosophy that makes UTEP look like "Handoff U".

Nugget is spot on. Lefty is the starting qb. Period, done, end of story. He does show good IQ and the kid has grit, and tries to play like Jameis Winston. But he's not a Winston and now has had two concussion within two months. Lord knows how many he has had in high school? The science is out and you just don't mess with concussions.. So Kugler needs to work Metz and Kavika like they are starters. Hughes is a strong back, but he is far, far behind Jones or even a Luafasa. But good rb's to start straight out of high school go to big programs, recruited as db's for big time programs and JUCO's are a crap shoot and there is usually a darn good reason why that bad ass rb is at the junior college level: Grades or a head case or both. Hughes needs to step it up big time this spring and miner fans can't fool themselves thinking Kugler will get another Jones. That only happens once every few years or more.

UTEP isn't attracting any elite QB's. Not one because they don't throw the ball enough. Not even now. Elite QBs have too many other viable options in the SEC, PAC12, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, MWC, and even AAC instead of the Miners. The worst part is several more "viable" schools are in CUSA! If elite QBs are graded on an A scale, UTEP would attract a B grade option. If they committed to developing a pass game, then maybe, but no one is buying the balanced offense jargon for 2016. Even high school and 7 on 7 coaches know a healthy Jones at UTEP means a return to ground and pound.
