Throw any top tier CUSA school in a "Cartel" Conference and give them twenty times the money, 100 times the exposure, 100 times easier recruiting and then what? Well, we win half the conference games and get invited to the big dance every year, of course. That's the new reality. We won a National Championship and danced yearly waaaaaay back when the "Cartels" were playing on an even playing field. No more. Now it's them and the "Mid-Majors". RPI ratings are slanted towards the "Power" schools as well. They're not that much better then us but the play themselves and schedule OOC games at home to maintain their control.
And how many double digit rated schools have beaten the "Cartels" so far?
Remember: he who has the gold makes the rules! And the NCAA rubber stamps whatever the "Cartel" schools require to garner the lion's share of the world. Just like in real life.

The power conferences have more money and better teams because tv networks will pay big money for big conference tv rights. The carel schools are comprised mostly of very prominant state schools and prestigous private schools. They have alot of alumni and commercial appeal. Its not impossible for a school outside the power five to get onto a big conference. TCU, UTAH and Louisville all moved up because they built successful football programs. Butler and Creighton moved to the big east because they built great programs. The schools that have moved up have done so because they built successful programs and added value to their new conferences.

The key to UTEP bettering our conference situation is to build a winning football program. UTEP's problem is that we've put to maby resources into a sport (basketball) that has not and will not help of conference affiliation.
