In the post game press conference, Dimel talked about the play where we fumbled on 4th and one QB sneak. Dimel calls that QB sneak play and formation our “Viper Package.” Our Viper Package has worked relatively well in very short yardage situations, when we had a bigger running QB like Kai in there, but Hardison is not that same type of QB. Hardison doesn’t show that same type of confidence when running(hence the fumble), and frankly he is also probably too valuable to running that type of play anyway. Remember last year when Mahomes dislocated his knee cap on the almost the exact same type of play?
My simple suggestion would be; that since we are always running a big personnel change prior to running that play anyway, why don’t we simply put Hankins, Tupou, or McKenn at QB in our Viper Packages? We will just need to spend some time working with them and the Center so that they can get the snap, then have them be the QB and bully their way for the first down whenever a 1 yard QB sneak is needed. I honestly believe that 1.) This would be much more effective than forcing the smaller and less aggressive(from a running stand point) Hardison into doing it and 2.) this change would pose less of an injury risk to our QB and shift the responsibility to one of our players who are more oriented and more experienced into executing that type of physical play.
