UTEP Basketball Recruiting

Former assistant at power schools like Indiana, NC State and Cincinnati. Was also at UNC-Greensboro, Texas Tech under Knight, Rice and Cal. He has coached three NBA players... but can't find anything about his ability to recruit.
Right and why was he out last year? Will he be bringing a recruit with him? Is he a defensive guru or will he help the offense? Not much information otherwise.

Don’t worry about it! Just buy season tickets, then donate to the MAC, also give to the NIL collective; so we can maybe beat LaTech in football and basketball!!

Don't forget the most important stat, how many followers does he have on Instagram/X?
People actually think I'm joking. I believe and Assistant needs to have at least 10k followers. Look at all of Waldens coaching staff, I believe a lot of them are in the upper 20k followers. That's why they are doing good in recruiting. Walden himself has more followers than the Utep Football. He is more popular than Utep Football.

So that's why Nick Saban retired! Turns out he just couldn't keep up with the TikTok stars of today's coaching scene. Guess he didn't have enough followers to stay relevant!

He got scared , he doesn't like the idea that he not the only one that can pay players. Recruiting is now a even playing field.

So is basketball recruiting done since we are "out of money"? Anybody know if the collectives are trying to help land another transfer? There is still room to improve.

Thought this was interesting. Does anyone remember Chuck Hayes? 😀
I certainly remember our excitement when he came to visit. The list of schools that he took officials to was interesting: Kansas, Kentucky, Saint Louis, and UTEP. Obviously he picked the Wildcats. He was one of several really, really good recruits that Rab was after, but he couldn't close the deal. Had he, it would have been the most talented class in UTEP history.

Thank you for that. I remember being so excited when Rab was hired.

Well I think it's pretty obvious that Golding is gonna keep the 13th scholarship in his back pocket for a potential transfer. It's too bad there wasn't enough NIL to lure another forward.

Has anybody gone to the open practices? Any updates on how the new guards and Mbengue are looking?

Any news on UTEPs MBB summer travel?

I thought he said he hasn’t filled the 13th Scholarship because he’s out of NIL money

Dacannon Wickware. Originally committed to UIW out of HS. Went to JC. Other offers were Southern and Prairie View. Look forward to him playing against Sul Ross and NMMU!

He's currently at the end of the bench and is an unpaid NIL guy. Were you expending a lottery pick? Hopefully he's a gem and surprises us.

It's a little odd in that he had 5 other mid majors much closer to home. Could not find much in the way of stats except this from 2022. He was averaging 8 assists per game.
-------------------
Feb 3, 2022 — The area's assist leader is Richmond Heights freshman DeErrick Barber, who has 144 through 18 games to give him an 8.0 average.

Looks like he played in the lowest division/lowest enrollment level in the state of Ohio, but his school was the #1 ranked team in Cleveland last year and won the state championship (22'-23').

2025 recruit. High 3 star on ESPN
