Let's start with what we agree on:
- Locklear played a great game tonight, kudos to him.
- We both want the players and the coaches to succeed.
- It was nice to get another win.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's try to inject a little realism:
- Locklear hasn't had a good performance all year before tonight. Going into the LA Tech game he was leading the nation's 9th worst scoring offense.
- Locklear wasn't playing anywhere near this well against LA Tech. In the six drives that he engineered only one ended in a score. While that score was a touchdown pass, all he did on that play was toss a simple screen to Kam Thomas that Thomas turned into a 47 yard touchdown. The Locklear helmed offense wasn't able to move the ball effectively on any other drive.
- Neither of us knows exactly what would have happened if Locklear hadnt been hurt, but there's nothing in his past performance to indicate that the last two games would have been any different.
- You claimed on another thread that tonight's game was a solid win for one program. It took two overtimes to beat perhaps the country's worst FBS football team. In our house. For our homecoming game. These are games that we should win, not be relieved to win.
- I really, really, really hope that Locklear turned the proverbial corner with tonight's performance. But until I see him play well more often I will assume that tonight was an anomaly.
