Interesting matchup. UNC Greensboro is 3-3. In Henderson they've done the exact same thing that we've done: lose a game to SJSU by the mid single digits and blow out Long Beach State. We are on a pattern against Div 1 teams: looked ugly against Utah Valley, played well against UCSB, stunk it up against SJSU, killed a weak Long Beach State team. By this pattern we should suck again, but I'm going to put on my orange tinted glasses and predict a close win::

UTEP 72
UNC G 70

It’s the earliest in the season I’ve ever said this but this team ain’t going anywhere. They might be able to put a decent game or two together, but not a whole conference tourney’s worth. Too much “depth” in CUSA this year.

I hardly even give a sh!t at this point, though.

This game looks interesting - UNCG doesn’t seem to have a player in their regular rotation over 6’8 so we may be able to hold our own with the smaller line ups. It feels like it’ll come down to whether the 3s are dropping and that’s never a good thing to rely on.

UTEP 72
UNCG 70

UNCG will give UTEP fits and only God knows what kind of offensive production UTEP will put up? Could be good like the Santa Barbara game or suck an egg like Utah Valley game. UTEP will play good D but shooting is Helter Skelter.

UTEP 68
UNCG 74

We ve won three of four away from home against D1 teams - I’m okay with that.
Love to see UTEP going against West coast mid majors. But you have to win the games you're expected to win and pull an upset of a big and in Golding's case versus Louisville. Watching that Indiana game Wednesday, this game maybe ugly. However, SJSU was a totally unnecessary loss.

I missed much of the game helping my wife with Thanksgiving prep. I came in with us leading by 6 after having squandered a 15 point lead, which was then cut to four. I then watched us build it back up to 16, and then hold on against a late rally. Here are my thoughts:
  • Golding's teams are designed to win by forcing turnovers and scoring points off those turnovers. We do it by overplaying passing lanes and having our bigs hedging on the perimeter. We are almost always successful at doing this, but still often lose as this defense gives up a lot of good scoring opportunities, especially around the basket. We weren't able to create the turnovers this game, as UNCG only turned the ball over 13 times, but we still won. We did this by playing good all around defense, holding them to 36% shooting.
  • In our best win of the season so far, at UCSB, and again last night, we gave up double digit leads late and almost lost. This has me concerned as to how we will handle closer games down the stretch.
  • The last two years OF3 has always brought the defense and intensity, but only sometimes the scoring. This year he's our best player, he needs to be both more aggressive and more efficient offensively. We won last night, but four points on 1-9 shooting from him typically isn't going to get it done.
  • On the other hand, I've been happy with Camper's offensive production this season.
  • If I was a UNCG fan I would be incensed at their coach right now. They cut the lead to six with about a minute left and let us use the whole shot clock? How do you not foul in that situation, when you need possessions, especially playing us?
  • I'm happy that we won our last two games, but the three games in this event were against mediocre to poor competition. At Louisville will give us a better gauge as to where we are.
  • The question was asked as to why there wasn't more chatter on here after a win. Kane provided some reasons, let me add that this game was on FloSports, which required an extra subscription. Had it been on ESPN+ we would have probably had more eyeballs on it, and therefore more posts about it.

Good points above. Of the last four games away from home, we were not favored against UCSB and won. We were favored against San Jose and lost. We were favored against Long Beach and won. We were not favored against Greensboro and won.

Of the last four games away from home, we lost won one we were supposed to win; we won two that we were not supposed to win and we won one that we were supposed to win. Again, not my dream scenario, but I’ll live with it.

OF3 is injured. Last night, he was on the bike when he was not playing. I don’t know the specific injury, but I’m assuming it has something to do with last night’s lack of production. You’re spot on about Camper, he stepped up last night.

I hope Otis gets recovers quickly as this team’s prospects rest on his shoulders. The teams ultimate Achilles Heel will he lack of an inside presence for the purposes of rim protection,
scoring and rebounding as positions 1-4 are filled with high level talent.

Good synopsis of the games. It was fun being there to watch all three games. OF3 is dealing with a knee injury. He was receiving treatment on it on the bench throughout the last couple of games. I’ll look forward to being at the Louisville game. Hopefully, we can put up a good fight and possibly a miracle win. One can dream, can’t he?

GO MINERS!

Agree. I will watch now and then, but I think we know our limits with Golding at the helm.

Then GTFO.

Sorry man. “Big” victory over UNCG doesn’t really mean anything. Especially after seeing two horrible performances against UVU and SJSU. It’s also Thanksgiving eve
It’s not about who we played … I just find it interesting that there isn’t much chatter after a win. I mean talk of any kind, doesn’t have to be positive after a win — it’s just dead silent..

For example this team is frustrating to watch because the defense at times can be amazing but we can’t shoot … last nights game we had many opportunities to really stretch out things but our terrible offense keeps showing its head and it drives me insane … we need 3-4 guys who can knock the 3 ball down when open and I really feel we might just have 1 (Bynum maybe)
