WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational

We are not looking good so far this 2nd half. Threes aren't falling like they did the first half, giving up too many offensive boards and fouling too much. We need to block out, play better D, and start hitting some shots.

Good win. One thing I'm noticing is that Golding teams can't play with leads. His substitution patterns have a lot to do with this. I'm very proud of Kalu. He is a rare player that has been here all 4 years and is being rewarded with his improvements. Those careless unforced turnovers absolutely needs to be cleaned up. With our inability to rebound every turnover is crucial for this team. PLAY BYNUM! Keep winning and the crowds will come. Go Miners.

Your negativity is really tiresome
I find unwarranted cheerleading tiresome, but to each their own. I'm always happy when the Miners win, but reserve the right to critique the way they earned that win. I thought that the UCSB win was a good win, beating a solid team on the road. I praised them after the Seattle win, as I thought that was their best home win of the season. I thought that they played with heart and grit against Louisville, and if they could only rebound their defensive boards they win that game.

But calling a win against a (still) winless Jackson State a good win and calling the team "gritty" after almost giving up all of a 22 point lead with less than 5 minutes to go is ridiculous. In this game we were at home, played a great first half after a slow start, and maintained a lead that was in or near double digits for the majority of the game. And we barely held on to win that game. Down the stretch we committed turnovers, allowed way too many offensive rebounds, missed key free throws, and took bad shots. Yale battled back by crashing their offensive boards and playing good defense. Had they hit a shot on that last possession they would have earned a "gritty" victory on the road. We were lucky to escape with a home win.

I know that after we crush Northern New Mexico you're going to consider it a great win. I'm going to yawn and consider it a forgone conclusion, and complain that two games against non-Div1 teams was more than plenty, and that playing a third is ridiculous. Once we beat a good team in conference play I will join you in calling it a good win.

I was at the game.

Good win . I liked how KJ Thomas was getting big minutes at the end of the game. I saw Gooding brought KJ in for defense. That's pretty good for a young player to get those big minutes.

Camper missed a lot of layups. I saw that Terrell yelled at him a lot because he wasn't moving or something. But yeah Bynum needs to be starting . He would probably be avg 20 points if he was starting.

idk whats up with Terrell, erratic, can’t control his dribble especially when he drives, just looks uncomfortable. Bynum needs to play more but he needs to keep coming off the bench.

Now the fans need to fill up the don … we are 9-3…. Played really well against a tough Louisville team … no excuses

Sell out the Don for NAIA Northern New Mexico, who is 4-16! Athletics is so important up there, they haven’t posted the outcome of their game on Friday. Come see Baylor Hebb and Antwan Holmes play significant minutes against some scrubs!

Don't expect a big change in defensive rebounding. Golding's defense dictates that. Also blocking out is no longer a focus in basketball.

Not having a reliable big to start or come off the bench has been a slow burn. Other than Kalu, there are 4 other guys on this team that have been unable to step into that role for various reasons. It's a huge missing piece and all based on Golding's poor recruiting/planning for this moment.

Bynum not playing more is becoming sort of the next Jones like conundrum.

Yeah. Crazy the kid is averaging 19 minutes a game. Had 15 last night. Hasn’t been in in at least a couple situations where we really could have used his scoring.

I watch his defense. Unless I’m totally missing something, it’s not bad. Wonder if he has nagging injuries and because it’s a long season, Golding is using him the bare minimum so we have him down the stretch. Even CJG has to be aware of the drop off in scoring potential with him on the bench. I don’t get it.

I agree. I think Bynum should be getting 20-25 minutes per game minimum. Golding has a bit of a log jam in the backcourt, which is a good thing, in theory. I think for Bynum to get minutes in crunch time, he would need to jump past Barnes, who plays the two the majority of time on court. I just don't see Golding sitting Terrell down the stretch in games. Golding also has Thomas who has been getting more minutes, and has been decent backing up Terrell. Bynum's shot selection frustrates Golding at times, and he sometimes loses focus on defense, but I think his offensive upside is worth the extra minutes.

Yes he should be eating up some of Thomas’s minutes.
