Every city has a portion of its population below the poverty line. El Paso, due to proximity to a poorer nation, probably has a larger portion than a lot of US cities. With a county population of well over 800k, let's speculate that approx 400k in EP have enough disposable income to support UTEP football. Let's also say that the 70k reported to have tuned into the UTEP vs NMSU on local tv indicate a sizeable interest. Surely UTEP can tap into all those folks enough to average 35k going forward. Too many people want to crap on EP and UTEP and try to pretend that bad attendance figures will always be with us. Good football will eventually payoff with better attendance. EP doesn't have to be rich to afford it but I do hope that city leaders can bring in more and better job opportunities. That is a big part of the reason for their existance.
