Who Does CUSA Add?

CBS Sports saying Marshall is gone.

Marshall hurts, ODU does not at all for any CUSA member and if they think they will make a splash in the SB they are sadly, sadly mistaken but they save a ton in traveling.
ODU's been pretty good in basketball over the years.

Well I didn’t say that. How about we just don’t talk about ticket prices anymore. It’s clear that you believe El Pasoans are walking around with fat pockets and should pay Austin and Charlotte prices for crappy CUSA products even when the team is in last place.
It's clear you think El Pasoans are all broke. When at Chihuahuas and Locomotive games there are more people in the west star bank suites than on the lawn seats.

Both cities have comparable household incomes. I haven't been to a chihuahuas game since their first year. The last Locos game I went to had tickets that start at $12 and lawn seats for $5. I saw maybe a few families sitting there while their kids played in the playground.
Fargo ND INCOME per CAPITA $35,205
El Paso TX INCOME per CAPITA $21,683

The average wage earner in Fargo has way more disposable income than his counterpart in EL Paso.

You would have to calculate costs of living to make the bolded statement true.

That's the equivalent of posting a NatyLight tweet with his conference prediction.

Not sure why NoWins would even post such a bogus tweet. Seems he's excited to see CUSA fail and is reaching for any trash opinion.

Over the last couple of years, I thought we learned not to trust random people on Twitter.

Is it good news for conference USA that Old Dominion is leaving ? Seems like another nail in the coffin

Oops. I didn't click on the tweet. I assumed it was that last tweet he posted saying everyone had declined invitations to CUSA.

You're right then. That's what the numbers show.
My point is UTEP will never have large crowds with the price point of $50 to $70 tickets like they had for La Tech. For the UTSA game (our big rival) they have lowered prices.

BTW, does anyone know if they actually lowered the prices for UTSA or they just had La Tech as a premium ticket?

UTEP only has three gold sections at that price range. Section 4,5&6. Those are the sections I've been advocating to chairback. Most of those seats are the old faithful season ticket holders. They deserve to have a nice seat. Could also be an incentive for others to buy them.

Other than that every other section in the Sun Bowl is priced in the $12-$25 range.

The LT game was a premium game. Tickets are back to normal price for UTSA.

For RICE they're all at the $10-$20 range except for the gold seats. Those cost $35-60.

Every city has a portion of its population below the poverty line. El Paso, due to proximity to a poorer nation, probably has a larger portion than a lot of US cities. With a county population of well over 800k, let's speculate that approx 400k in EP have enough disposable income to support UTEP football. Let's also say that the 70k reported to have tuned into the UTEP vs NMSU on local tv indicate a sizeable interest. Surely UTEP can tap into all those folks enough to average 35k going forward. Too many people want to crap on EP and UTEP and try to pretend that bad attendance figures will always be with us. Good football will eventually payoff with better attendance. EP doesn't have to be rich to afford it but I do hope that city leaders can bring in more and better job opportunities. That is a big part of the reason for their existance.

Imo what the Locomotive does very well is they cater to both ends of the ticket price very well. They have a very limited amount of $5 lawn seats and the $10-12 GA seats. Those sell out fast because it's only a small percentage of their overall tickets available. They also offer the $2 beer specials which yields good sales.

On the other end of the price spectrum, Locomotive have so many options for fancy seats. Those sell out too. I got to sit in the West Star Bank suite for the Sunday night Locomotive game and the specialty drinks and gourmet food was flowing like a kings feast.

It looks like that's the model UTEP is trying to copy with the new Pavillion seating. They still have a ways to go to get a true high end feeling to it.

It wouldn't hurt UTEP to have a small section of the Sun Bowl be a designated low priced section. Maybe section 26, the top 10 rows. Sell those in packs of 4 for $20-25. I figure that's 200-300 seats that go unsold every game. Once those sell out they're gone. If it fails, scrap it.

I guess being Independent sucks. Schools are so desperate to leave it they would entertain the idea to join the remnants of CUSA.

I don't know if we'll need a non football playing member. If we do I would have to think UTA is the number one option. The MVC has been heavily recruiting them since August. The MVC is a great basketball conference. I don't know if we could beat the MVC. However, having Liberty, WKU and NMSU who all have strong programs won't hurt in trying to attract them if we need a non football school. Having a school in DFW would certainly good for recruiting.

Says bring an Independent sucks. 3 Independents rumored to join a shithole conference and celebrates. Still ends up playing Independents and FCS move ups.

One would hope they would be open to an OOC basketball series. That would be dope.
When UMass had football in the MAC, they had to play a certain amount of MAC teams in basketball. Hopefully UConn will be required to do the same. Though, they won’t be playing only UTEP and probably the more eastern teams only.

If you read the UConn board, like 90% of them are shitting on this. Everyone is so excited about this! https://the-boneyard.com/threads/conf-usa-in-talks-with-uconn-liberty-nmsu.174848/page-3

Point is independence must not be as attractive or financially feasible as you think. That's why those programs would rather join a shithole conference with all the unwanted FBS schools and FCS calls up than remain Independents.

That's a nice tool to have during these times. It'd be nice to give a bunch of those independents a home. Some of them are really good. Army, BYU, Notre Dame. NMSU...not so much except for basketball.

Can you blame them? Basically have gone from a power conference over a decade ago to possibly the shittiest football conference in the country.

They did this to themselves prioritizing hoops and Oly sports dumping the AAC for the non football Big East.

Who gives a crap what they say though. They have to come to El Paso once a year (like one year UTEP and NMSU the following)

They won the Big East and played in the Fiesta Bowl. They should prioritize their basketball programs though. They are actual “basketball schools”. Moving to the Big East and dumping on your football program was probably hailed by the majority of their fans too.
