Who Does CUSA Add?

Who cares about their attendance. Lets worry about why we had 10k for a MW foe.
The prospect of playing games in front of 8k for football and 1k for basketball doesn’t excite me too much. I understand that you’re very excited to play with a bunch of recent FCS teams.

September 2019 was a long time ago now and I don’t remember what has going on at the time aside from a blowout loss to Tech the game before.

I am not questioning their athletic capabilities. They might get better crowds in they were in FBS, by how much, I couldn’t tell you. As a reasonable person, I would say that hosting UTEP and NMSU would barely make a difference in attendance.

I am only questioning their current attendance. They have a long winning streak and are current National Champions. They’re getting less than 8,000 and IF they went to FBS, they’re certainly not winning 16 in a row or winning anything other than a conference title and a 5th rate bowl. They’re not going to be playing Houston, Rice, Texas, and Baylor. They might be playing schools similar to themselves and unwanted CUSA schools.
I get ya

That's going to be our reality. We're closer to playing in front of 8k than they are to playing in front of 15k. Give us 4 years of independence and records of 2-10 and we'll be lucky to draw 8k.

Doesn’t matter who we are playing, another 4 year run of bad football, we will be playing in front of 8k.

A reasonable person would look up information. I’m not going to tell you why it’s better to be in a conference because as I have stated many times before, you are lazy or just want to sow chaos or pursue argument. I say a bit of both.

Second, playing 2nd rate whomever in conference is better than 1st rate Baylor. If you are independent you now have to schedule anyone who has availability as compared to inter-conference setup.

Have you seen games at Rice, FIU? We've played in front of fewer tha8k at those venues. Announced attendance is totally different.

Maybe NDSU might be coming around to the idea of jumping to FBS. If CUSA folds the opportunity might be gone for a long time.

From a NDSU fan on the CUSA board.

"NDSU has always been happy with the FCS. After all, for the last 10+ year they have been dominant. With JMU leaving, they will literally lose the program most like themselves. The only other teams in the FCS worth a darn at that point would be SHSU and SDSU. Nobody else really matters or is consistently competitive.

Today the NDSU AD, Matt Larson, was asked about FBS and stated that they are very concerned of the possibility that several of the top teams in the FCS are leaving (or rumored to be leaving). He then went on to say that at this time he would not be able to comment regarding any conversations with other schools or FBS conferences.

When JMU leaves, my guess is that NDSU will figure out a way to join the FBS (potentially with other like minded schools)."

If we could get those three programs CUSA might actually be able to make some national noise.

I sure have. Again, the best we’re hoping for is a team who gets 8k for football and 1k for basketball, 1 hour away from Houston. And those figures are while they’re winning.

FIU is a mess, their attendance doesn’t help their cause. Rice has already moved, so it doesn’t matter if they have 2 fans in the stands the rest of the year.

Playing Baylor in any sport, at anytime is better than whatever comes to CUSA.

I have my opinion on it. You can too. I am not saying, I am right and you’re wrong; simply stating, I WOULD RATHER BE INDEPENDENT THAN BE IN SOME FRANKENSTEIN VERSION OF CUSA. I can’t make it any clearer.

"At JMU, the year we won the national championship, we lost $1 million and when you’re winning and it’s costing you money, that’s why all these teams are going up to [FBS]."

Your respectfulness aside, that would be a pretty amazing conference. Of course, we all know that can exist only in a parallel universe because it will never happen in this one. Still, it would be amazing. Add in Wyoming for a 10-team, BYU and Utah for a 12-team conference that would be even more amazing.

Nice to dream on occasion. Rather dream about this than the nightmare of UTEP in a conference with UMass and UConn. I mean, who really wants to be in that disaster of a conference?
Certainly not UMASS or UConn.

I know that NDSU is very good at football and they are way out of the way but they are charging $45 for an endzone seat. Wish UTEP could get that. If fans will eventually pay that for the average ticket at UTEP and average 20k per game, that would be $900k just in ticket sales per game. Won't happen but sure would help our sore leg.

They can charge that because instead of triple a baseball they have a double a team. Instead of top golf they have toptracer.

Supply and demand. They play in a 18,700 seat dome and are highly successful.

Those are nowins excuses why UTEP can't charge more for our tickets. Funny that even he knows how stupid that excuse is by liking your comment.
Funny how you compare economically “better” cities than El Paso. If the Chihuahuas have $5 tickets, you can’t expect El Paso to jump up and down for $14 LaTech tickets.

Both cities have comparable household incomes. I haven't been to a chihuahuas game since their first year. The last Locos game I went to had tickets that start at $12 and lawn seats for $5. I saw maybe a few families sitting there while their kids played in the playground.

Chihuahuas also play many more games in a season.
I don't know the specifics of it but they don't have that many $5 lawn seats available. It's mostly meant for families with little ones. At least those are the only people I saw sitting there.

Back to the subject at hand. With ODU gone and Marshall next out, but yet to make it official, why doesn't CUSA make the less is more pitch. Sun Belt wants to split the pie 14 ways. They just signed a new TV contract I get that. However CUSA should be selling Marshall on a 8-10 team league that will receive 32 million to split up between the remaining teams. Then CUSA can work on a better TV deal when this one expires and split the profit between the 8- 10 teams. Marshall is on the way out that's been discussed, but until it's official CUSA should offer whatever they can. Marshall is the star and franchise QB in this situation. If they stay that gives CUSA the opportunity to bring in JMU and Liberty then if they want add NMSU and Missouri St. who already has a decent stadium with over 15,000 and is working towards an indoor practice facility. This would be a really good basketball conference and can be a decent football conference. I'm hanging on to a thread here I know, but C'mon Just put on the charm! Don't post Marshall's gone and JMU are going to Sun Belt, I already know that's most likely, but nothing's official yet and Marshall seems to hold all the cards. I'm simply stating what CUSA should be pitching at this point!

Give it up bro. Marshall is gone. They're waiting for their new president to make the announcement and usher in the new era of Marshall athletics. Use that energy to keep WKU/MTSU from leaving to the MAC. That would really be the end of CUSA.

Sure. Get in price for a Chihuahuas game for 4 people is $20 and it was $56 for LaTech. Don’t think that people won’t see the difference.
So then your theory about fans coming back after the $5 d2 basketball game is trash. Get in for $20 return for $48 the next game. They'll notice the difference too.

CBS Sports saying Marshall is gone.

Marshall hurts, ODU does not at all for any CUSA member and if they think they will make a splash in the SB they are sadly, sadly mistaken but they save a ton in traveling.

Corona, let it go. He's hoping for a loss this weekend and lousy turnout the following week. UTEP could hire Saban and he would still shit on the UTEP pavement for whatever reason.

If you have fun at a Chihuahuas game, you might return to a Chihuahuas game. If you have fun at a Chihuahuas game, you’re not going to go to a UTEP game (or something different). No correlation there.

At a Chihuahuas game, the level of competition is the same all year. They don’t play AA teams. If they did, I would expect those games to be cheaper.

LOL. That’s why you’re dumb and have no clue. I don’t wish that. Just because I consider different things and can look without Orange blinders, doesn’t mean I want those things.

Ridiculous.

In other words $5 tickets are unnecessary since those fans won't return to pay regular price. Got it.

Well I didn’t say that. How about we just don’t talk about ticket prices anymore. It’s clear that you believe El Pasoans are walking around with fat pockets and should pay Austin and Charlotte prices for crappy CUSA products even when the team is in last place.
