The Gamecocks of Jacksonville State make the jump from FCS to FBS in 2023. They went 9-2 in 2022 losing to FBS program Tulsa and FCS program SE Louisiana St.

The game will be held in Jacksonville at the 24k seat Burges/Snow Field at 3:30 PM El Paso time. Good news for the Miners, Jacksonville is in the Central Time Zone.

The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network (local bars and restaurants take note). Their official colors are red and white. Expected temperature in the mid 80s at game-time with high humidity.

The Gamecocks are going to want to run straight into the teeth of a stout UTEP defense which gave up less than 150 YPG rushing in 2022.

"The offense will run and keep running with an attack that finished fifth in the FCS and averaged 424 yards per game overall. The ground game averaged 5.6 yards per carry with almost 3,000 yards, and it returns loaded with options starting with leading rusher Anwar Lewis - who averaged over seven yards per carry with 818 yards on the season - and bringing in Malik Jackson from ULM after running for 958 yards and nine touchdowns over the last two years. These two will rip off yards in chunks, but …

The quarterback runs in this thing, too. Zion Webb is the veteran playmaker who ran for 647 yards and 13 touchdowns and threw for ten more last season, but he’s trying to get a seventh year of eligibility and isn’t likely to be back. Even though the job is still wide open, Te’Sean Smoot is the exact time of ultra-quick option who fits - and he has a little bit of experience."

More worried about Sam Houdton than JSU, but they have Rich Rod and its a road game for utep. It'll be tough.

They got most of those stats against FCS... While, UTEP isn't a powerhouse. They have more FBS talent, than Jax St does. UTEP needs to win, a loss to them, will be very ugly. Could spell the end for Dimel. He has playmakers all around him, if he doesn't get the most out of them, he should pack up and go back to KSU lol

Army was just plainly the better team that year and used their style of play to totally control the game, the field position, the clock. The Miners have better athletes now. Dimel better know how to get more production out of the talent he has. That's what it comes down to no matter who we are playing.

JSU will probably start a new QB this year. I'm calling it now. Turnovers will be the difference in this game. Praise's reach will be a major factor.
