OT: Corona virus Questions

The County basically acted without consulting the City. The county said this is a regional problem and we are the region. Dee Margo said he first heard of the new regulations on TV. There is zero communication between city and county. Margo said that since Day 1, they've worked together. But now the county is ignoring all communications with the city. Theyve ghosted Dee Margo. Margo is livid and has consulted the State Attorney General. And Margo has instructed all city government to NOT enforce any county regulations.

Its really a pissing contest between the city and county.

Isn’t this a microcosm of the nation’s response to this mess? We all can’t get together and pull in one direction.

Yeah, Govenor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire said that all members of Congres, 435 in the House and 100 in the Senate should all be Fired. They've not accomplished a single thing since March. He asked the question, "Would the country be worse off if all 535 in Congress were replaced?"

I hate the both sides bs. Some people think they’re so clever with that, but they’re either polar opposites or the same. They can’t be both.

Now maybe mistakes are made on both sides, but one or the other is in the right about all of this. Not all 535

Its fn dumb, we always “throw the bums out” and elect new “outsiders”. And then we blame those same people a few years later and continue the same cycle.

Quotes from Dee Margo:
"We can control this spike with our personal actions; wearing a mask, maintaining distancing and the hygiene — washing your hands and staying home when you do not need to go out," Margo said.
"I do not believe we will control this spread by shutting down our economy for any length of time," he said. "I will be reaching again to the County Judge to visit. Working together as we have in the past is absolutely critical to stopping the spread."

Based on social media reactions. Margo’s stance has instead been interpreted as a “f the judge” and “f Covid”. Him keeping places open has become a rallying cry and instead of staying home some people will have their biggest parties instead.

Well that makes no sense whatsoever. If people have or go to parties thats on them. At no time has any leader or judge here in EP said its ok to have parties. Hope they get fined.

Yup but people are dumb. For the party crowd. Margo is now like “cool dad”. “Yeah do what you want, we’re not stopping you.”

Basically the judge said you can’t go out. The mayor said you can (you shouldn’t), but yes you can.

The mayor is enabling all the irresponsible people.

I dont see it that way. I see it as a power grab by the judge and Margo being Butthurt. Its just another example of power tripping politicians.

No he didn't. Margo has NEVER said that.

There is a city wide curfew starting at 10pm (excluding work) and people are recommended not to group with people outside of their household, grocery shop individually and follow standard precautions. There is a $500 fine for curfew violators.

When and where did Margo ever say that you can out and party (because that's what you are talking about)?

“Only we — by our behavior — can stop the spread,” said Margo.

The disagreement here is whether some businesses should close for 2 weeks. Nothing more and nothing less. Trying to equate this to partying is a mute point. Both sides agree that there should be no partying.

Also IMO the enabling argument is the dumbest ever. Just another way to blame others for your mistakes and bad decisions. If Margo supposedly said its ok to jump off a bridge because there is a party down below, then would they?

I know what you’re saying. The nuance you speak of though is lost on most people. People just read “open for business”.

That’s interesting. I would be very curious to know what the percentage of people in the hospitals/getting tested are from Juarez. I doubt we will ever get a concrete number.

We never will, that would throw the political agenda out the window. Cause an uproar about closing the border.( I thought it was closed but everything lm hearing is many loopholes). And of course there’s the money, and humanity aspects. Damn world is just to complicated.

I agree it’s a tough spot. On one hand I try to imagine if I was in Juarez and I was that sick why would I go to a Mexican hospital when I can come here and get treated and tested? But on the other hand I’ve heard stories of people getting bad care at the hospitals in El Paso because they’re so overwhelmed, and I can imagine that those health care workers have been at their limit for a long time. Obviously the answer isn’t to kick people out because that’s not ethical. The answer or all of this is not easy.

Not many countries in the world allow people to get free health care (no payer), but in the U.S. we do because its the humane thing to do. If you dont have insurance or even if you can get over the border (legal or not) then you can get care. Doesn't matter who you are. That is the law right now.

Problem is, Its not only a matter of humanity right now, its a matter of capacity.

Agree or not, EP and U.S. hospitals have always treated uninsured and people from Mexico. If a person is able to get over the border, get to the ER and meet admission criteria then they are in. If the illness is serious, the problem then becomes disposition and follow up. Most patients never even contemplate that part. A lot of COVID patients are going home on oxygen (which requires insurance or a decent cash payment).

Now admission criteria for COVID is changing. Initially if you came to the ER and were hypoxic then you automatically get admitted. Now people are being sent home on oxygen if its 3 liters or less and told to come back if they get worse. If you have no means of getting oxygen then you stay and somebody else may have to wait. Some of these people are from Mexico, so its making people upset because they don't want to have to wait in line (especially if they are really sick and/or requiring ICU care).

Now if you don't agree with the law then that is a different issue. So are issues of closing the border and health care in Mexico.

So far there are three models from what I can tell.

1. East Asian/ New Zealand Model (no longer possible): control the people from day one. Know where everyone is and stop the spread with a few people.

2. Western European Model: Shut down the economy once it’s here.

3. Swedish Model:Keep things open and just protect the vulnerable.

Texas liquor agents crackdown on El Paso bar-restaurants: 2 licenses suspended, 8 warnings issued
Michael Gordon
Published 8:42 PM MST

EL PASO, Texas -- For the past week, a group of Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents have been busy helping law enforcement agencies in El Paso after they were sent here by Gov. Greg Abbott.

According to TABC spokesman Chris Porter, El Paso is the only community in Texas whose coronavirus situation has necessitated such an influx of help.

In the days leading up to Halloween, those agents carried out operations across the city, working closely with local police and fire department teams.

“We have that expertise and we have that ability to go into these businesses and over the years we have also developed a good working relationship with a number of these businesses that understand what the requirements are," Porter said.

Those TABC agents were pulled out of El Paso on Monday after carrying out over 400 checks on various businesses and responding to community complaints about stores that were reportedly breaking coronavirus safety protocols.

“Anytime we received a complaint about a potential business from local law enforcement or code enforcement in El Paso that allows our agents to start our own investigation to find out if a violation did take place," Porter said.

From those checks, eight businesses were given written warnings and two were hit with 30-day suspensions of their business licenses.

Ron Patterson, owner of Tortuga Sports Lounge, got hit with a 30-day suspension, he said.

He called his citation and ensuing suspension "unfair" and "ticky-tacky."

And while the city itself is still processing their weekend citation numbers, Commander Ryan Urrutia from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said that his deputies responded to over 50 calls for coronavirus-related incidents in far east El Paso County and other unincorporated areas.

“We did issue eight citations for violations of the mandate and these were several parties that were taking place," said Commander Urrutia.

Urrutia added that his men currently do not have the resources that they would need to keep up with all of the coronavirus rule infractions that have been taking place within the city.

A full and detailed listing of which businesses have been cited by the TABC can be found here and is updated every day through their public inquiry database.

"“The findings indicate that COVID-19 is not simply a disease caused by the death of virus-infected cells, but is likely the consequence of these abnormal cells persisting for long periods inside the lungs,” said Mauro Giacca, a professor at King’s College London"

Halloween is a tad soon for symptoms. This is day of lock down orders and eateries, "restaurants", bars and private gatherings blew up.

BTW, Wuhan had a massive Halloween pachanga this past weekend. Numbers are not zero like Australia, but so low the commies in Bejing allowed an American style drunk fest in one of their largest cities since they complied.
