So you’re ok with bailing out the airlines and then receiving continuous shitty service for whatever reason they feel, but giving a few student loan borrowers a break is where you draw the line?
The Auto Industry bailout was very unpopular in real time but saved thousands of jobs. The first airline bailout was after 9/11 and PPP bailouts were under the American Rescue plan from Covid.
Not every government bailout was popular or necessary.
There is something unsettling about individual bailouts for people’s bad decision making. Most Student loan issues are from people who didn’t finish school or didn’t get a worthy degree.
And then there is the thought of, where does it end? Last election I was promised my Student Loans to be paid off. This election we are hearing 25,000 cash to help buy a house and also the Government will pay off medical debt. What will it be next election cycle?
I think the average American can reason more with a business being bailed out because no one wants to see people lose their jobs. I don’t want my neighbors to lose everything.
But I also think that the average American wants to be fiscally responsible, pay their taxes, and contribute to society. So when a person has done everything the right way and never got a hand out, that person doesn’t like to see the irresponsible get away with it.
The perception is, it took me 7 years to save my down payment. Yours was a gift for a vote. It took me 2 jobs and 10 years to pay off my loan, yours was a gift for a vote. I pay $2000 a month for healthcare and you chose not insure your family, but now your debt is paid for by politicians.
I think in short, regular people don’t want to help regular people. We’re ok with money to the impoverished, but not our coworkers who have 2 new cars and a mortgage
