There’s been no reports they are even remotely interested in joining CUSA for football only. I don’t see it happening. CUSA being able to continue really relies on the 5 staying together for at least a little bit. Senter has come out and said UTEP is committed to CUSA, the other 4 haven’t.
FIU said the same. LT has no where to go. WKU/MTSU are holding out for a an invite from the MAC that might never come.

Wow I'm surprised it's so significant. You look at the conference map for the Sun Belt vs CUSA and it isn't all that different, mostly just El Paso being the outlier, but even then it's less remote than half the schools in both conferences by way of air travel.
Yeap. Also, they will have closer opponents for fans to travel to. Let’s face it, UTEP only travels to NMSU games. The Rice, UNT, and UTSA games are attended by people who don’t currently live in El Paso. All the further out conference games might have 10 UTEP people there, and again, probably not current El Pasoans.
Army already dropped out of CUSA once, and that was when CUSA was actually good.

UConn would NEVER join in basketball. They left the AAC and went independent in football so that their basketball could join the Big East. Why would they join CUSA, a lesser conference than the AAC, in basketball?

It won't be that bad if CUSA survives. Best case scenario, we win a couple of conference titles. Worst case scenario, turns out we belonged in FCS all along.

Well, of course. El Paso is well over 80% Mexican American. UTEP athletics are popular there when they do well, just like anywhere else. Ethnicity doesn't have anything to do with it.
