Golding and Coaching Contract

Is the state of Texas going to do the same thing that the state of New Mexico is doing?
I don’t know enough about this to know that yet. However I’m not gonna support a defeatist attitude. Utep made this move fully knowing it would take more money to compete. It’s obvious that many on this board are concluding that this is the same Utep and nothing will change. I beg to differ though. Changes have already begun with Football and NIL with all sports and will continue to rise as we transition into the MWC. This has already been echoed by the President.

Cool. The same president that lets Senter keep his job? The guy that is going to be hiring his 3rd basketball coach and has nothing to show for it? Senter has 1 Bowl team in his whole tenure and you’re believing the President is going to make UTEP “competitive”.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

The president made the decision to move up knowing what’s involved so then whether it’s telling Senter what he needs to do or letting him go I believe it’ll happen!

If UTEP hadn't moved up it would have been the death of the program. Let's not make it less than it was or give more credit for accepting the mwcs desperate invite. Anyone else would've done the same in a similar situation.
Well I guess we will see if the Administration steps up with the move up!

Ummm....yeah. "Coach Golding built a winner in Abilene, but it did take 10 years. So, we're giving him a 5 year extension " - Jim Senter

If you’re right then we will continue to recruit like crap and play like crap and we will be the crappiest new basketball team in MWC. Golding is not a D1 recruiter or coach period

From the street

Late December time frame was on Golding desk for weeks didn’t get the for sure it was signed but the reason for delay in announcing is approval from the UT System. Sounds like a mess to me

From the street? What does that exactly mean?

I sure hope Senter and Wilson are not that incompetent. Even when we were winning it was obvious that we do not D 1 talent or coaching. Senter may be lazy enough to extend him, but hopefully Wilson has more intelligence.

I wouldn't doubt it. Senter did the same dumb shit with Terry after they beat ASU. If this is true Senter should be fired immediately and have to pay Golding out of his own pocket.

If Golding has indeed been given a contract extension then it is time to burn down the athletic department.
Again allegedly the reason why it hasn’t been announced is because of the UT approval process one sure way to know is to get it from someone on the team word is they know.

A) Unverified rumor.
B) Unsigned contracts don't mean diddly which ties into C) Info would have had to come from someone working in the Senter/Golding offices everyday to make such a claim and passed on (to Tstix) and has a modicum of truth.

A couple of the posters on here would be jumping for joy if that was true. They would be rushing to buy extra blocks of season tickets.

While all the rest of the posters would be cancelling theirs.

UNO gets a regular season title and NCAA appearance in year 3! Impossible at UTEP. Close loss to Louisville though!!!

I don’t know what the approval process is with the UT system but it seems to me if we would have continued to win the extension would have been made public by now but after the disaster that’s unfolded they are going to have to be very calculated. We may never know all the facts

Well if it is true and it hasn’t been approved, Utep should void it and tell UT Just Kidding please Disregard!!!

That's a depressing thought. I will probably cancel my season tickets if Golding gets an extension.
Different time though, maybe it’s nothing.

I don’t believe UTEP is stupid enough to give Bronzeing an extension based on what he “accomplished” in the non-conference.

I can not wrap my mind why they would give him an extension. Golding has admitted his challenges in recruiting while his CUSA peers can recruit and keep teams together (Ritchie McKay; Liberty), get athletic young talent (Antoine Pettway; KSU), and coaches who can rebuild from ash heaps within one season and compete (Jason Hooten; NMSU). And let's not forget hired in one year and won the CUSA tournament (Steve Lutz; WKU).

No way in hell UTEP wins Tuesday, they are playing awful. SHSU is "Oh, thank you Jesus!" after this tournament pairing. So in typical UTEP athletic dept fashion, we will get "We'll see how the summer goes and evaluate the guys....the fans have been super and deserve better....the portal has made things challenging, I didn't have this challenge at ACU....we need guys who can play blah, blah, blah". Meanwhile, Senter will go on Big600 with Kap and throw back handed comments at fans who complain about crappy performance and give boilerplate comments.

Golding needs let go, not resigned nor given "one more year".

While some are rightfully not believing internet rumors, this is on par for Senter.

A rumor is a rumor but history is factual. In the time Senter has been here, he has, prematurely and undeservedly, given contract extensions to Dimel and Terry. While we don't know if the rumor is true, it does mirror Senter's trigger happy contract extension history. I want this rumor to be wrong as much as anyone but I just don't know if Senter can deviate from past decision trends.

To me, the real question isn't "Do you believe the rumor?", but, rather, "Do you trust Senter?"
